Group Overview: The Society of the Crooked Crossroads (formerly called Hallowed Moon) is a group of witches working within the stream of non-Wiccan witchcraft, specifically the path of Primitive Witchery. We are forging this path ourselves, establishing this as a viable tradition, while drawing on specific traditional and folk practices to make our Craft powerful and resonant.
We emphasize folk magic, trance work, ancestor and spirit contact, and service to our community within this tradition. We believe in a higher power, which we simply refer to as Deity, but primarily work with individual entities such as spirits or ancestors. We are rooted in old practices and traditions as we have been able to find and interpret them, but do not claim any ancient or unbroken lineage whatsoever.
Our influences include Traditional Witchcraft, Hoodoo, Pow-wow, Southern Conjure, Granny Magic, Gypsy Magic, and Hedgewitchery. We also include folklore, local lore & agriculture, and local community service (both from a spiritual and environmental stance) into our practices.
Our goals within our society are fairly simple. We want to empower our members to have deeply fulfilling magical and spiritual experiences. We want to build a good reputation within our community through acts of service. We want to be the group of folks people think of when they hear the word "witch", and to make that word mean something positive to those who say it. Basically, if we have witches who love doing witchcraft, and who love being with each other, we think we can accomplish that. We emphasize quality over quantity and may not have many members at any given time, but we are okay with that so long as the members we have are devoted to the group and its work.
We welcome new blood, and consider ourselves to be a family as well as a group of friends and witches.
More information about our tradition and our group can be found at our website, or you can e-mail Stephanie at stephanie@musiccitymojo.org.
