Group Overview: This group will be meeting monthly in the basement at Edge of the Circle Books in Seattle. We meet on the second Monday of each month, from 7 to 9pm and often go out to socialize afterwards. The focus of this group is on building and linking the local Celtic Reconstructionist (CR) community, with discussion, study, and practice. We hope to celebrate the four major holy days of Samhain, Imbolc, Bealtinne and Lughhassadh together, as well as other traditional Celtic holy days that resonate with individual members. Our goals are support of personal practice and helping to build community practices.
We are *not* Celtic shamans or Celtic Wiccans. We do not operate under those models or with those expectations.
Anyone interested in or curious about CR may attend. Other reconstructionists are always welcome, but the focus of the group is on Celtic Reconstructionist Paganism. We are primarily adult-oriented. Kids will probably be bored at our meetings.
There is no formal membership in the group at this time. No initiations of any kind are offered. There is no formal course of study. We will be doing things like discussing books we liked, talking about rituals we've done at home, and planning/performing rituals for the group as a whole. For some rituals, there will likely be trips to parks or wild places, depending on our needs.
There will be work and discussion on a variety of levels, from beginner to advanced. It is strongly suggested that anyone interested in coming to the group read the CR FAQ, either for free on the website at http://paganachd.com/faq/ or by purchasing the hardcopy book at http://paganachd.com/faq/buybook.html or through another source. It outlines the basic assumptions from which we will be working and will answer a lot of your questions before you arrive.
Two of the members of the group are primary authors of the CR FAQ and among the founders of the CR movement. Another member has a Ph.D. in Celtic Civilizations. If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to contact Erynn Laurie for details.
