Group Overview: Dimidium. Half. It is the nature of all who practice the Ways of the spirits and powers of the world and the next. It is a word that defines who and what we are as witches. Dimidium is a forming witchcraft coven whose focus is upon operational magical workings, simple and primitive ritual, and ecstatic experiences, not necessarily in that order. The material presently used is inspired by the works of modern authors such as Lee Morgan, Gemma Gary, Sarah Anne Lawless, and others, as well as looking at trial records and incorporating the historical practices presented therein. Examples come in the confessions of such characters as Bessie Dunlap, Isobel Gowdie, and Agnus Sampson, to name just a few. However, while written materials will certainly be found to be of great use, the ultimate guide to these Ways are the ever-present spirit beings, which inform each individual’s practice, as well as group work. Through close contact with the Otherworldly presences and powers, each witch will grow into their own practice and Ways, while simultaneously finding a home nestled within the group.
The witch has always been a walker between, beyond just the realm of the mundane, not entirely human, and not entirely beast, never truly wild, and never truly civilized. Our witchcraft is a witchcraft based in the land, our locality, and in the ways of the ecstatic spirit. Through ecstatic ritual, we find our connection. We are not entirely of this world, and not entirely of the next, and so we celebrate and enjoy all that every world has to offer, working to reach beyond the physical, and feel the pleasures and torments of all worlds. We are traditional witches, those who have fallen to the wayside even in the pagan community. It is for this reason that Dimidium seeks to create a truly tribal environment of trust, and to foster the safety of a real community. It is by this community that we find ourselves able to relinquish our civilized manner, casting off our clothing for rites when weather and location permit, and entering into ecstatic states of trance to deeply experience the reality of the Otherworld, and what it means to truly be betwixt and between. The coven will seek to meet at least once a month at the full Moon, holding Sabbath rituals and/or working magic. Certain holidays may be honored or expressed by the group, depending on availability and group desire.
Dimidium is not a Wiccan coven, and is not set up in any form of hierarchy. All are on equal footing with another, simply coming together to practice their Ways. We are, however, an oath-bound group, requiring a vow of silence from every individual admitted, ensuring that the identities of those present are never revealed. As a group, we will work many forms of magic, being unafraid to work with both hands, meaning working both good and ill as we see fit. We do not look at things as being black and white in our practice. All is only ever gray, and varying shades thereof. Through practices such as drumming, mill treading, uses of traditional substances such as flying ointments, the use of words as power, and other traditional methods, we open the door which has no key, calling to Him who is to us as a Master to an apprentice of the Ways, and deepening the connection between ourselves and the world around us. As a group which views witchcraft as being shamanic in nature, instruments such as drums, rattles, bells, and tambourines are employed regularly, all to aid in the experience of ritual. Anyone with drumming experience or who has such an instrument and is looking for opportunity to use it will be very welcome. Along with drumming, Dimidium finds regular use of entheogenic substances to be a staple in the practice of witchcraft. More information on this will be divulged during the first meeting.
As a note, this is not a group with any concern over Western Occultism, Pagan gods, or anything of the like. Instead, this is a heretical group, which purposefully seeks to undo the constraints placed on individuals by a highly Christianized society. As such, many rites and rituals involve heretical actions such as the historical trampling of the cross, and the conducting of the Black Mass to undo that which has been done in the name of a vengeful God. We do not pull from other cultures or focus on Eclecticism within our group, only seeking that which we come to through our connection with that Other side. The only requirements for joining this group are a willingness to get your hands dirty (meant in a literal way, your hands will get physically dirty) , the ability to accept that the modern constructs of “dark” and “light” mean nothing to a witch, and above all, the desire to be free from and turn against the constraints of Christianized society, and the morals, values, and ethics imposed by the same. We will drink, dance, smoke, eat, and conjure all in the name of He who is the Master of the Ways; that Old Spry Devil.
If you are interested, or would like further information, please feel free to email me. We are still a forming group, and are accepting new inquiries. However, not all who express interest in the group will be admitted. Be prepared to answer questions about yourself, your practice, your experience or lack thereof, and others which will help us gauge how well you fit within the group. Please note that a lack of experience does NOT mean you will be turned away. However, this is not a teaching group. If you are new to the Ways, it is expected that you will learn of your own accord. While we are happy to provide tips and pointers, our purpose as a group is not to teach. In the same vein, do not assume that because you have experience, you will automatically be admitted. We admit based on several key factors, but personality is the largest.
As a note, if you respond to this post expressing interest in joining a Wiccan group, allude to Wiccan theology or belief, or use the phrase “Blessed Be, ” it will show us that you have not read through this post, and your email will be discarded. While we take nonissue with Wicca, it is not what we practice, and that is made clear by reading through this information.
Lastly, please do not provide us your real name. This is a group based in secrecy, and your identity is your own.
We look forward to hearing from you.
