Group Overview: We are a family-based Asatru Kindred in Laramie, Wyoming. This tradition is also called Heathenism or Odinism. We are polytheistic and follow the Northern Gods, the spirits of the land, and our ancestors. We believe in judging a person by their actions, not by their outward appearance, race, or sexual orientation. Our Kindred has been established for a couple of years now and we are trying to reach out to other followers of the Northern Gods or to those that are interested in learning more about this tradition. We are not at this time affiliated with any national Heathen organizations.
Heathenry is a unique path in Paganism as it does not require all it's members to practice magic. The relationship with our Gods is a very close one with most Heathens and we include our Gods in our daily lives and so do not feel the need to practice many ritualized forms of magic. Our culture and traditions are at the source of our path, and we are more like a way of living than a philosophy. Heathnry is a reconstructionist religion, where we try to understand and follow the ways of our ancestors, but also includes Unverified Personal Gnosis (UPG) where our Gods can influence our beliefs personally through individual people. Heathens tend to follow the Nine Noble Virtues (NNV) , or some form of them, as our ethical code. We call our group a Kindred because we believe that we are a family, literally, and we treat each other like family.
Our Kindred, though others are different, is tribal in nature and is structured around a Chieftainess, a Thyle or lawspeaker, and a Gydhia (the dh is pronounced th) or spiritual leader. The Chieftain/Chieftainess is in charge of the leading our Kindred, the Thyle is in charge of reciting the laws of the Kindred and settling matters of law, and the Gydhia is the spiritual leader/counselor/leader of rites. All three work together to help each individual member of the Kindred and support them not only in spiritual matters but in their everyday lives as well. We, at this time, have three full members, four either interested people or are on their way to becoming full members, and a total of four children whose parent/gardians are members.
