Limited to 666 copies, 50 in royal blue kidskin leather hand sewn and bound by the author with his own endpapers of Indian khadi paper stained red and marbled with black ink and liquid gold, to the front board is a gold tooled impression of the ‘Inner Temple Lamp’.

The book explains the nature of the Club, its membership structure, details the symbolism for the first time and opens a window to scholars wishing to delve deeply into its extraordinary spiritual and occult world. The book examines the use of two geometric 'Keys' which unlock Dashwood's notorious 18th century caves in surprising ways, shows the nature of the legendary 'secret passage' in the caves, relates the symbolism and activities of the club to magickal evolution and indicates the possible existence of Templar cosmology in the Hell Fire Club.
Beginning with the significance of signs on the Membership Cards, and ending with an occult interpretation of the serpent font in the church at West Wycombe, this beautifully written book lays bare every detail of the Hell Fire Club symbolism and relates it to magickal and spiritual evolution.
The book is designed to be both an introduction, a practical users manual for members, and an advanced tool for studying the surviving caves, temples and symbols associated with Sir Francis Dashwood’s most notorious activities.
Collected from local oral legend, rare printed and manuscript materials and the authors own researches into the esoteric energies of the Hell Fire Club and the sinister ‘Knights of St Francis’, an inner order which many believe still exists today.
Illustrated with over 70 pictures, photograophs and line drawings many seen here for the first time, we are given a rare glimpse into the most notorious and fascinating of secret societies from the inside.
Contains the first information to be published on the 'Phoenix Nest' group, a 1940's esoteric circle which met at West Wycombe in Buckinghamshire. Echoes of their work inspired by the Hell Fire caves, were picked up by the witchcraft researchers Gerald Gardner, Robert Cochrane and Evan John Jones up until the late twentieth century.
The prime mover of the group was Maxwell Ashby Armfield whose study of symbolism, Theosophy and the writings of occultists such as Francis Isreal Regardie, and his correspondence with Dion Fortune and Aleister Crowley is only now coming to light.
