42 (Or: The Third Testament)

The field of evolutionary science is very large, but not difficult to understand when explained in everyday terms. Over the past decade, scientists have made some Earth-shaking discoveries about the evolutionary origins of religion, civilization, social interaction, and emotion, to name a few. This book is a practical guide to the course of humanity from our evolutionary origins up to the present, and a demonstration of ways in which an evolutionary understanding of humanity can be used to build a better future for everyone.

For one example, with his 1997 book "Guns, Germs, and Steel", Dr. Jared Diamond very thoroughly demonstrated that every culture on Earth is created by humans making the best life for themselves that they can with differing amounts of material resources to work with. That is, that every culture in the world has just as good of reasons for existing as every other culture in the world.

For another example, in thier 2001 book "Why God Won't Go Away", Dr. Andrew Newberg and Dr. Eugene Daquill demonstrate how religion became an evolutionary necessity once human intellect developed to the point that humans became constantly aware of their own mortality. Without a way for people to believe that they would survive their physical mortality, the human race would've become extinct due to mass clinical depression.

As various anthropologists have discovered, every group of people in the world practices some form of religion, and every religion in the world accomplishes the same basic psychological and sociological effects for their followers. Every religion gives its followers a way to escape their own mortality, a way to give their lives a sense of purpose, a code of conduct to enable them to function as a civilization, and some form of higher power to believe in, among other things. Therefore, scientifically speaking every religion in the world is just a different sect of one universal religion.

I mostly-jokingly refer to this book as The Third Testament because it is one universal equalizer for all of humanity. With one book I demonstrate how every person on Earth has just as much right to be here as everyone else, how every person has just as much right to their culture and their individuality as everyone else, and how every person has just as good of reasons for having their culture and their individuality as everyone else. Obviously, in order to build a peaceful, sustainable global community, it must be built on something that every person on Earth already has in common, and human evolution is the one thing that every human being is guarunteed to have in common.

Pagans, feminists, environmentalists, gay rights activists, and indigenous people's rights activists are all trying to help build a future that's fair to everyone, and with one book I demonstrate how all of those different groups are struggling toward the same goal. Many Christians, Jews, and Islamists are also trying to help civilization move forward, and with that same book I put into everyday terms what everyone has in common and where their differences originate. By making that common foundation known to everyone, I give every well-meaning person everything they need to know to help build a better future for us all.
