CHS Announces Seven New Faculty

Proclaimed by: M Macha Nightmare
Proclaimed from: San Rafael, California

Cherry Hill Seminary is pleased to announce the appointment of seven highly qualified new faculty members in three different departments:

*Susan G. Curewitz Arthen*, an Elder in the Glenshire Order of Witches, began her training with the Order in 1981. Through EarthSpirit Community, she is one of the core staff of Rites of Spring, Twilight Covening, other gatherings, and at many open circles, both organizationally and as a teacher. A tarot reader and teacher, Sue has helped create and lead many Rites of Passage rituals and also held office on the local and National Boards of Covenant of the Goddess. She lives in Western Massachusetts with her intentional "magical" family, and will be teaching Rites of Passage next semester.

A Witch in the Reclaiming tradition for over 20 years, *Brighde Indigo* is a founding midwife of the Cauldron of the Valley community in Northern California, where she teaches classes and workshops in the Craft and encourages community and interfaith cooperation. She has a life-long commitment to the spiritual nurture of children and is the mother of a grown son and daughter. In 2000, she instigated the founding of Witchlets in the Woods, one of four Reclaiming family witchcamps. She is part-way through an elementary teaching credential and is presently working on a book on children in contemporary Paganism. Her M.Div. work focused on ethics and family systems pastoral care, with internships in hospital and hospice chaplaincy. Bridghe will teach Children in Contemporary Paganism in Cherry Hill's summer session.

In her mundane life *Victoria Slind-Flor* is the West Coast editor of a prominent legal journal. She has been a practicing journalist for more than 25 years in Washington State, Louisiana, and California. The mother of five, she has an undergraduate degree in medieval philosophy and a master's degree in English. Victoria is Crone Art Priestess of Daughters of the Goddess Dianic circle. Additionally, she serves as a seeress for Norse oracular seidh sessions. Victoria is also a fiber artist whose first show will feature images of Sheela-na-gigs which emphasize the Sheela image as an avenue of contemplation of womens spiritual journeys. Victoria will teach Media Relations.

*Sheena Colbath Harden* has been an "official" Pagan since 1990, when she discovered (quite by accident) that other people shared the beliefs she had held in secret since childhood. Her studies began in Austin, Texas with the University of Texas Pagan Student Alliance, the Council for the Magical Arts and the Pagan Alliance of Central Texas. She formed Willowsong Coven with fellow University students in 1990. Her training continued with Earthhaven Grove (1991) and Phoenix Moon Grove (1999) , both of the Unicorn Tradition. In her mundane life she is a grants administrator for the City of Austin's Telecommunications and Regulatory Affairs Office. She assists a variety of non-profit and community groups with their grant writing, sponsorship and fundraising efforts. She is also a writer, artist and musician. Sheena's course in Grant Writing will be offered in Cherry Hill's summer session.

*Drake Spaeth, Psy.D.*, is a clinical psychologist, shamanic practitioner, writer, and ordained minister of Circle Sanctuary, an organization dedicated to nature spirituality. A former active-duty Air Force officer, has served as a consultant for the Armed Forces about issues pertinent to nature spirituality and engaged in interfaith dialogue work with military chaplains of different religious traditions. His interests span a wide variety of spiritual topics, such as Celtic shamanism and Celtic mythology, Jungian psychotherapy and psychospirituality, hypnotherapy, Taoism, Kundalini Yoga, divination, and the Western Mystery Tradition. Dr. Spaeth is also the founder of Hermetic Journeys, an organization dedicated to the study and exploration of masculine spirituality and masculine archetypal motifs in modern times. He will take up the mantle of teaching one of Cherry Hill's foundational courses, Boundaries and Ethics, in the Spring.

*Marty Meeks* has just completed her Ph.D. in Celtic Studies at the University of Edinburgh. Her intellectual honesty and openness quickly earned her the respect of the department. Marty's thesis focused on animal husbandry on the Scottish Highlands and she has researched numerous areas of Celtic Studies.

*Roy Willis, D.Phil.*, began his academic career at Oxford University, where he completed his D.Phil. under E.E. Evans-Pritchard. After teaching at University College London for two years, he began teaching at the University of Edinburgh, where he is Emeritus Fellow in Social Anthropology and where he occasionally teaches Anthropology of Consciousness and Shamanism. His publications include: Man and Beast, There was a Certain Man: Oral Art of the Fipa, A State in the Making: Myth, History and Social Transformation, Some Spirits Heal, Others Only Dance, and (with Patrick Curry) Astrology, Science and Culture, (forthcoming)

Cherry Hill Seminary is a privately owned Pagan seminary program based on the Communitarian philosophy of the sacredness of connections and community building. In that regard, the Seminary is committed, in general, to the mission of building connections between all faiths of the world, and specifically, to train and ordain qualified ministers who are dedicated to the philosophy of building community within their particular Pagan denominations.

Recent surveys indicate that Paganism is one of the fastest growing religions in the United States. This popularity, however, does not come without a price. An increase in Pagan practitioners has created a demand for teachers, leaders and professionally trained clergy. Cherry Hill Seminary is trying to meet this growing demand. We seek to: help experienced and skilled current Pagan clergy supplement theireducation with training geared toward professional ministry skills ratherthan basic magickal skills; help those newly called to Pagan ministry to get a comprehensive education in all aspects of Pagan thealogy, practice and committed ministry; support Pagan communities reaching out for a qualified Pagan clergyfor legal and sacred rites, education, leadership, networking, and pastoral counseling.
