In Loving Memory of Elsa

Proclaimed by: Moonwolf
Proclaimed from: WheatRidge, Colorado

Proclamation...

Elsa adopted us on a cold and snowy October day in 1997. She was in our backyard and looked so miserable, I opened the door and she came in to stay. She was a most loving and sweet cat, who loved to share our laps, couch, chair and bed. She liked things a certain way and let the other cats Wolfgang and Diddle know it. Wolfgang liked her but Diddle took some time to warm up to her.
In 1998, we adopted a sweet little grey ball of fluff and I named her Hazel. Elsa adopted her immediately and taught her the ropes, they became fast and close friends.
The years went by, with kitty colds and such, then in 2001, Wolfgang was diagnosed with diabetes. A year later he passed away. Diddle, his adopted sister and best friend, missed him terribly. Elsa did what she could to give comfort, as did Hazel, they all grieved for him as we did. Diddle became very withdrawn and spent most of her time alone.
Seven months later, we drove two hours to my Sister's home and met some kittens at her friend's place. We chose two sweet little babies and returned a month later to bring them home. They spent most of the ride home sleeping on my chest, we bonded instantly. We named them Garg (boy) and Suzy-Cube (girl) . At first, the other cats were a bit miffed, but Hazel and Elsa warmed up to them quickly. Elsa again took on the roll of adopting Mother and kept the two very 'ornery kittens in-line. Eventually, Diddle warmed up to them and became a bit of her old self. We had a small pride of kitties who got along as most siblings do.
Then in 2003 Elsa began showing signs of illness. An x-ray showed something in her lungs and we knew that time was precious. Medication and treatment helped her through a few rough times, but, the cancer kept growing. Then, on the 13th of this month, she crashed, she'd fought as much as she could. Saturday, the 14th, we had her put to sleep to end her suffering. Diddle, Hazel, Garg and Suzy miss her, as does our dog Dusty, whom she loved to groom and snuggle.
We all miss her, but know that Bast has her in her arms, Elsa's suffering is no more. She is at peace.
Blessed Be.
