Wiccans flying into Rossville for Witch School Conference

Labor Day Weekend, amidst the celebrations of the Sweet Corn Festival, is the annual Witch School Conference and Correllian Lustration. Held publicly in Rossville for the first time, Witch School Students and Faculty are coming together with the public invited to a weekend of ritual, education and focus on the future.

Rossville, IL (WSI) - August 26th, 2008 - Every Labor Day Weekend, the Correllian Wiccan Tradition has gathered to honor their ancestors and have done so for several decades. This ceremony known as the Lustration has been held in Vermilion County since its inception, and has now found it’s permanent home in Rossville Illinois. The Correllian Tradition is a faith of love for all things, believing that everything in heaven and earth are divine, and believing that the best way to live is in “Perfect Love and Perfect Trust”. Officially described as a Nature-Based religion, it adherents are known as Wiccans and sometimes called Witches.

People from all over the World are coming into this town to share in the annual Celebration -which includes the Lustration, the Correllian Tradition’s anniversary of it’s founding- and to share in Wiccan initiations. The celebration includes within it a conference about Witch School, which begins it’s 8th Scho ol year, allowing the school’s staff and students to get a look at what the coming new school year brings. Witch School is the largest public educator of Wiccans in the world today.

The weekend will have meetings and classes, as well as rituals and celebrations. One of the most important discussions will be about the Witch School Volunteer Guild, which began earlier this year as a way to promote public service. Today, more than a dozen projects are underway in several states, including food drives, adopt-a-highway projects, and environmental clean-ups. With members already in several states and countries, it is anticipated that this project will grow at a rapid pace. At this conference, WSIVG will be setting forth ways to assure support to this growing service group, and to the community at large.

One of the most important presentations will highlight the growing services that Witch School offers and supports. Witch School has helped people become Clergy since it’s inception. Now Witch School offers new groups and classes that focus on a wider array of lifestyle courses, including helping individuals develop products for the growing Pagan/Wiccan Market. Another is a writing group focused on creating fiction and non-fiction content for a broad range of uses. Others include Film, Internet Video, psychic development, history, and environmental/green Studies These are the beginnings of recognizing the needs of our students and our ability to provide them with the educational support they want.&n bsp; Over the next year, Witch School plans to create a still broader education for everyone, especially those interested in Wicca and Magic.
Of course, everyone loves to do a little shopping when they visit. This year Witch School has a number of licensed products that they have created, including ritual kits, spellbooks, DVD’s and CD’s. They will be showing off for the first time a new clothing line, created by Wycked Velvet. The line includes Capes, Robes, and a line of interchangeable tunics, pants, and skirts, which mix and match to suit the individual style of each well-dressed Witch out on the town.

Each Lustration is capped off with a ceremony, where Priest and Priestesses bless the tradition and the world, give the oracle that guides them for the year, and renews the Waters of Life. While elaborate, the ceremony recognizes Deity as male and female, imminent and divine, and part of everything that is, reaffirming the tradition as serving the faith in ‘Perfect Love and Perfect Trust’. It is a life affirming ritual that is considered the most important for many Correllian Wiccans. It is open to the public to watch.

To visit during the Witch School Conference, August 28th-30th, stop by the WSI Building, at 117 S. Chicago Street, Rossville, IL 60963.
