Salem Witches Honor the Dark Side of Wonderland at Annual Witches' Ball
Salem, MA -- July 21, 2004 -- On October 30, 2004, Shawn Poirier, Christian Day, and the Witches of Salem host a night of reveling and cavorting with the spirit world at the Official Salem Witches' Halloween Ball, an exclusive Halloween event that draws Witches and Wizards from around the globe! This year's theme is Malice in Wonderland, which turns Lewis Caroll's world insane, allowing fantasy creatures to maraud the night. This international gathering of Witches is held annually at the Lyceum Bar and Grill, a haunted restaurant in the heart of historic Salem. The Witches' Ball is part of Salem's Festival of the Dead, an annual October event series that celebrates death's macabre customs, heretical histories, and strange rituals. Tickets for the ball and details of the event are available online at www.festivalofthedead.com. A portion of the proceeds benefit the Make-A-Wish (R) foundation.
Bewitchments of the evening include sumptuous hors d'oeuvres, a cash bar serving a strange assortment of elixirs and potions, free psychic readings, a performance by sorcerer of song Teisan Russell, music and dance, and prizes such as Cryptique (R) Spirit Boards and a cash prize for best costume.
At the evening's pinnacle, Salem's foremost Witches Shawn Poirier, Christian Day, and the Salem Coven will cast the annual Salem Witches' Magic Circle to conjure the dead!
-- more -- Official Salem Witches' Halloween Ball #2 This year's costume theme, Malice in Wonderland, exposes the darkness that lurks between the lines of Lewis Caroll's famous works. The House of Cards has fallen, the Looking Glass has shattered, and Alice has gone insane! In the spiral of confusion, the combined magic of Witches from all over the world will set Wonderland aright and give Alice the well-needed rest she deserves! Guests are invited to dress in costume as their favorite Wonderland or Looking Glass character.
The Lyceum Bar and Grill, where the ball is held each year, welcomes guests into the haunting atmosphere of an early nineteenth century meeting place with rooms drenched in candlelight, glowing fireplaces, exposed brick and beams, and majestic windows. It is the site of Alexander Graham Bell's first public demonstration of the telephone (a device once thought to be able to contact the dead) and the former site of Witch Trials victim Bridget Bishop's apple orchard. Some say that her spirit still haunts the Lyceum today.
The Official Salem Witches' Halloween Ball gathers Witches together from across the globe. Tickets can be purchased online at www.festivalofthedead.com.
