MPN Elects New Executive Director

Columbia, MD – November 14th, 2006: New Executive Director for Military Pagan Network
A unanimous vote by the Board of Directors of the Military Pagan Network (MPN) has elevated the Rev. J. Michael Akins, a retired Army Chaplain Assistant, to their highest leadership position, that of Executive Director and CEO. As Executive Director, Rev. Akins will guide MPN policy, and act as the outward 'face' of the MPN.
It did not take the board long to determine who would sit in the top staff seat of the organization. The prior Executive Director, Dr. Mark Drake Spaeth of Circle Sanctuary and the Lady Liberty League, had selected Rev. Akins for presentation to the Board as his successor after stepping down due to conflicting time requirements.
The new Executive Director accepted the nomination and stated to the Board his intent to re-energize the MPN into a hunter-seeker of information both from and to the military pagan community, and outlined an aggressive vision for the organization.
The new Executive Director is a decorated veteran of both Viet Nam and Operation Desert Storm, receiving some 24 decorations, topped by the Bronze Star Medal, during his 24-year service. He has been active within the MPN, previously serving as Advocacy Affairs Manager,
Service Advisor (Army) , Board Member, and POC for Ft Belvoir, VA, MDW and the National Capital Region. In addition, he has been organizing a Northeast Virginia affiliate of The Interfaith Alliance (www.interfaithalliance.org) to further cooperation of differing faiths.
The MPN is currently actively supporting efforts by Circle Sanctuary, Sacred Well Congregation, Aquarian Tabernacle Church, Isis-Invicta Military Mission, and other Pagan organizations to obtain the Pentacle for fallen warriors and veterans, and an active duty chaplain of pagan beliefs to inform and guide the policies of those
who are designated to serve the religious needs of the service members who protect our way of life.
Founded in 1992 and incorporated in 1997, the Military Pagan Network Inc. acted as a store and group information resource for Neo/Pagans in the military. The corporation now provides information and material regarding various Pagan religions to the Chaplaincy, as well as fulfilling its original goal of providing contacts near military bases around the world. In 1997 the corporation expanded its services to include assisting military members with the proper handling of harassment and discrimination. The Military Pagan Network, Inc. has been found to be tax exempt as described in section 501 (a) as an organization described in section 501 (c) 3 of the Internal Revenue Code.
