USAF Chaplains Meet With MPN Director

USAF Chaplains Meet with Military Pagan Network:
US Air Force Chief of Chaplains, Chaplain (MajGen) Charles C.Baldwin, and his Deputy, Chaplain (BrigGen) Cecil R. Richardson met yesterday with the newly elected Executive Director of the Military Pagan Network, Inc. (MPN) , the Rev J. Michael Akins. The hour-long courtesy visit took place at the offices of the AF Chief of Chaplains on Bolling Air Force Base.
Subjects discussed included an appreciation of the support of Military Pagans by USAF chaplains throughout the world, ensuring religious accommodation issues are addressed at the appropriate level, communication modes when incidents of religious discrimination arise, and non-chaplain lay support of this fast-rising non-traditional eligion.
The Chief of Chaplains related the need of USAF Military Pagans to properly identify their faith on identity tags and personnel records, so proper allocation of scarce resources to spiritually support all AF service members could be made. Concerns were voiced that Military Pagans were being excluded in favor of more traditional religions.
The USAF Chaplains Service (http://www.usafhc.af.mil/) is charged to support the spiritual needs of all AF service members, regardless of the relative faiths of the chaplains or service members involved. Where a chaplain cannot directly address the service member's need,
they will try to locate the proper support. "We are here to support the spiritual needs of ALL of our Airmen and women" reiterated the Chief.
The Military Pagan Network, Inc. (http://www.milpagan.org) is dedicated to addressing the specific needs of those service members of all branches who follow the non-traditional faith and occultic traditions gathered under a common banner of 'Paganism'. The MPN seeks to inform members and government agencies in the relative aspects of their interactions, and to address incidents of harassment or religious discrimination. The MPN is a 501 (c) 3-qualified tax-exempt religious organization incorporated 1997 in the state of Maryland.
