Pagan Drum Corps Marching April 25th

Proclaimed by: Caroline Kenner - A WitchVox Sponsor
Proclaimed from: Silver Spring, Maryland

Proclamation...

Dear Friends,
Chesapeake Pagan Community is organizing a delegation of drummers and other Pagans to supply rhythm at the March for Women's Lives, Sunday, April 25th, on the national Mall. Please join us and show your support of gender equality and reproductive rights, here in the US and globally.

Abortion should be a private healthcare decision made by a woman, her partner and her doctor, without laws restricting her choices. Although most women in America have access to safe and legal abortion at this time, religious zealots never cease trying to impose their moral beliefs on society through legislation. Murderous attacks on abortion providers have discouraged doctors from getting involved with such a controversy. The Bush administration has succeeded in rolling back women’s family planning options in other countries. Full reproductive rights for young women are denied in some states here at home. We unquestionably live in a time when full gender equality has not yet been achieved, and reproductive rights are under constant threat.

As Pagans, many of our religious and spiritual paths are grounded in the ideal that God and Goddess (and thus male and female) are complementary and innately equal. Many of us found the Goddess through exploring feminism, or found feminism through adoring the Goddess. All of us love our Earth, our planet and our sacred holy trust. Many of us have unusual lifestyles and sexual orientations, and we all especially enjoy the sexual parts of our lives free of Judeo-Christian guilt. All of these are reasons to support the March for Women’s Lives. Abortion is not only a women’s issue. It is a civil rights issue, a family issue, a medical issue, a religious issue, a sexual freedom issue and an issue of planetary responsibility. We must control our population growth or we court even worse environmental disaster.

So join us on the Mall April 25th. We are marching as the Pagan Drum Corps, that is the name of our delegation, and we will be next to Planned Parenthood Los Angeles. There will be marshals to guide you to the Pagan Drum Corps meeting site when you arrive on the national Mall between the Smithsonian museums (between 3rd and 14th Streets) . We will begin arriving at 10am and the march itself will begin at noon.

If you are coming from Maryland or points north, and would like to meet at my house in Silver Spring, we will gather between 8am and 9am. I will have some snacks and coffee available. There will be free neighborhood parking spaces, and we will shuttle people to the nearby Silver Spring Metro station. If you RSVP to me (contact information at the bottom of this message) I can have a Metro fare card available for you to buy from me.

If you are coming from out of state, contact me and I will help you find whatever you may need.

Please distribute this message to any lists you may be on.
Brightest Blessings,
Caroline Kenner

Please Note: The exact meeting place on the Mall for our delegation will not be announced here on the Witches' Voice. Just go to the Mall on the morning of the march, and March for Women's Lives marshalls will guide you to our meeting place between 10am and noon. All you need to do is ask the marshalls where to find the Pagan Drum Corps delegation. We will be located next to Planned Parenthood Los Angeles. If you miss the noon step-off, just listen for our drums!

Hello, Folks, Tomorrow is the March! Meet Pagan Drum Corps down on the Mall as described above...
