Can the US government take your kids because you follow a minority religion?
Well, normally, I would not have thought that the government had the right to take peoples' children away simply because some government official disagreed with their religious beliefs. However, it appears that I would be wrong in thinking this.
A judge in Indiana has ordered some parents to cease and desist from teaching their child anything regarding their Wiccan beliefs. The judge has decreed that the child may be "confused" by being exposed to religious beliefs that are not "mainstream". Apparently the judge believes that this possible confusion could damage the child, and thus the protection of the "welfare" of the child overrides any consideration of the First Amendment rights of the parents or the child. If the parents dare to disregard the judge's orders, (and teach their child about their beliefs) , the judge can order the Child Welfare Services to take the child and place him in foster care.
