Community Service

Proclaimed by: Chris
Proclaimed from: Fairborn, North Carolina

Proclamation... Community service is something that the Pagan community needs to take seriously. Individually doing acts of kindness are fabulous within themselves, but community service in the name of Paganism can be a powerful tool in presenting a positive public image within the larger, secular community. Donating blood en mass, canned food drives, and cleaning up roadsides are very visible ways of showing your pride in our Pagan community, and showing that we respect the needs of other people as well.
I'd like to thank all those who have already worked so hard to do things like the canned food drives at Pagan Pride Day events, and have taken the personal initiative to help others. You all have sent a powerful message of love, and I think that is the ultimate way of creating acceptance. For those who have yet to experience the joy and overwhelming fulfillment from helping the larger community, I challenge you to get out there, wear your pentagram (or other religious symbols) proudly and help out somewhere. Most cities have shelters for homeless, animal rescues, and tons of other opportunities to give. I've seen a number of pagan groups become regular volunteers at local shelters and the impact this has had upon those people who have seen their kind works.
We all are in this world together. We need to make it the place that we hope it could be.
