Show Your Support for Pagan Rights

Proclaimed by: Central NJ Pagan Pride
Proclaimed from: Manalapan, New Jersey

Proclamation... Show your Support for Pagan Rights!
On March 17th, 2010, the New Jersey State Board of Education will be voting to either approve or deny the new 2010-11 list of approved holidays. Thanks to the efforts of many in the community, following an incident starting with Elena Ottinger and her local School District, the State Board is now considering adding all 8 Sabbats to the official calendar, which would allow Parents the right to have their children excused from school so they may celebrate the Sabbats without penalty, and without fear of discrimination from school officials.
We need YOUR support!
Central and South Jersey Pagan Pride Projects are uniting as Pagan Pride New Jersey to lead the effort to see this measure approved. If approved, New Jersey will be one of the FIRST States to formally recognize the holidays celebrated by many Wiccans and Pagans in the education system.
How you can Help
We want the State Board of Education to know that we, the citizens and parents of New Jersey support this measure, and expect them to ensure our rights as they do for numerous other religious groups.
1. Write, Call, or Email!
You can voice your support and concern by contacting the NJ State Board of Education, describing your concern over this matter, and the importance of equality and inclusion. While incidents of exclusion or discrimination may not take place in every school district, the fact that is has and can happen in ANY school district is unacceptable and it is the duty of the State Board of Education to ensure it does not happen. Your letters should encourage the BoE to include the Wiccan/Pagan Sabbats in their list, and provide the generally accepted dates and names of the Sabbats.
You can contact the NJ State Board of Education at:
NJ Department of Education PO BOX 500 TRENTON, NJ 08625 (609) 292-4469
or an email form: http://www.state.nj.us/education/parents/contact.htm
More phone #s: http://www.state.nj.us/education/genfo/about.htm
2. Phone Rally
On March 16th, the day BEFORE this critical vote, we encourage as many of you as possible to call the Board of Education voicing your support for this and encouraging them to see it through! Let them know we are here, we care, and want them to do the right thing.
3. Rally of Support!
On Wednesday, March 17th, 2010- most people will be wearing Green for the St. Patrick's Day holiday. We ask you to meet us in Trenton to attend the Public Meeting of the Board of Education Wearing PURPLE to show your Pagan Pride and support for this cause! The Board of Education Meeting will take place at 10:00am, New Jersey Department of Education 100 River View Plaza, Trenton, NJ 08625. We ask everyone to arrive an hour before the start of their meeting, 9:00am, so we can organize. We will want to fill as many seats as possible in the meeting to show our support and help give the Board of Education an idea of just how many Pagans there are in New Jersey! Contact Information
