MORNING GLORY ZELL-RAVENHEART (1948- ) is a very well-known and beloved Witch, Priestess, and Goddess historian—famous for her rituals, songs, poetry, and her Goddess Collection of over 150 votive figurines.
Morning Glory met her soulmate, Oberon, in September 1973 at the 3rd Annual Gnostic Aquarian Festival in Minneapolis and fell deeply in love. They were married April 14, 1974, in a spectacular public Pagan “handfasting” ceremony.
The Zells moved to California in 1977, where she helped develop a Sacred Wilderness retreat and the Living Unicorn project. She founded the Ecosophical Research Association in 1977 and co-created the Holy Order of Mother Earth as a vessel for sacred land management and Magickal education.
Morning Glory has been listed as a resource person and featured in many books on Paganism and its modern history, as well as various TV documentaries over the years. She is also a published poet, songwriter and prose author. She brings to all of her projects a store of songs, chants and folklore, plus a powerful vision of the reawakening of the Female Principle. Her life work has been about creating an initiation into a new cycle leading to our next stage of planetary evolution: the Gaia Cycle—a marriage of science and spirituality, ecology, feminism and sexuality.
Over the past 25 years Morning Glory has assembled an ever-growing Goddess collection of over 150 votive figurines from around the world and throughout history. Portions of the collection are used in her popular workshops at Magickal festivals and women’s celebrations. Out of this work she created Mythic Images, producing museum quality replicas of ancient Goddesses and Gods sculpted in partnership with Oberon. Morning Glory identifies herself most strongly as a Goddess historian, natural loremistress and ritual priestess of the Great Goddess in Her many guises, connecting with both Wiccan and Pagan shamanic Magickal practices. Over the years she has personally trained and initiated a number of people in Witchcraft.
Morning Glory is a published poet, songwriter and author, with short stories included in two volumes of Marion Zimmer Bradley’s Sword and Sorceress anthologies; and she was an acknowledged consultant for MZB’s The Mists of Avalon. With Oberon, she is co-author of Creating Circles & Ceremonies: Rituals for All Seasons & Reasons (New Page, 2006) . She is also Headmistress of the online Grey School of Wizardry (www.GreySchool.com) .
Morning Glory recently learned that she had been diagnosed with Myeloma (www.myeloma.org) . This is a very aggressive cancer of the bone marrow and blood which turns the bones and marrow into plasma. It is a currently treatable disease but it is not curable. It can be sent into remission and patients can live for many years as long as they are careful and mindful of their needs for treatment.
