· More than 50, 000 Americans a day Seek Domestic Violence Help
On any give day in America more than 50, 000 adults and children seek help from domestic violence programs such as shelters, housing and counseling. Guiding Angels Ministries in Ridge, New York was founded by Rev. Dr. James Coccia D.D. and Rev. Donna E. Mulvey to provide a safe haven to Long Island residents looking for support, assistance and comfort in one of the most trying times of a person's life. "A home should be a place of stability, comfort and love. There is never a time when the very thought of going home should scare you. Too many Long Island residents see their homes in just that horrific way." states Rev. Mulvey.
Guiding Angels Ministries, an inter-faith, non-denominational ministry was founded to lend assistance to any and all area residents where home is a scary place. Offering Domestic Abuse support, spiritual counseling, and Domestic Violence referrals; they are trying to bridge the gap between living in a shelter and independence for the victims. In a recent interview with Rev. Mulvey says that "Getting out of an abusive home is hard but staying out is just as tough. We founded Guiding Angels Ministries to assist those who are struggling in what is sometimes the first independent choices some of these people are making."
And making ends meet is just as tough for this fledgling non-profit organization. Weekly "yard sales" of donated items and contributions from friends have barely kept the doors open. In an effort to reach those in need during the upcoming holiday season, Guiding Angels Ministries is currently accepting donations of winter coats, boots, hats and gloves in all children's and all adult sizes. In addition to these efforts there will be a fundraising dinner held at the Ministry at a later date.
