What do you know about Kitchen Lake?

Proclaimed by: Once Upon A Silver Moon

Proclamation...

UPDATED 2/2007

We located the actual house. It was built in 1945 and had been moved to another location (in south OKC) in what appears to be 1987. So not only was it not burned down, someone is living in it right now. There's even a cute little picket fence.

We were unable to locate ANY records of misfortune in terms of fire OR death. Police did not have any records of violence of any kind at the location of the house.

There have been some (not a lot though) bodies dumped in that ravine, but the victims were murdered somewhere else and brought there.

The weather phenomena has been COMPLETELY explained in every aspect as have the little "orbs" people occasionally get in their photographs.

The previous owners sold the property to the City of Oklahoma City in the late '80s, for the same reason that the City closed down the bridge: the water department felt the need for a new reservoir. YES Lake Stanley Draper is just right there, but at the time the City was greatly expanding due to the oil boom. As you know the oil boom didn't last, people started moving away, so the new reservoir didn't happen. But the land is owned by the City of OKC Water Trust and they lease it to an oil company and to a rancher who grazes cattle there and would prefer people to not trespass.

The bridge is not likely to be repaired. The engineers were quite amused by the reputation the area now has. They think that eventually the area will be flooded, so they're not bothering to fix the bridge.

The mysterious footsteps are made by a family of armadillos that live in the roots of a large tree by the side of the road, close to the bridge. We got that on video -- it scared the crap out of us until we saw them. They only SOUND big. They're just regular armadillos. =)

Most importantly, the current residents of the area would really appreciate it if people didn't come and hang out there. They regularly call the police, and you will be asked to leave or even fined for trespassing if you are caught there.

So, now we're looking for a different project. Any ideas are welcome!

--------

Once Upon A Silver Moon Productions is putting together a project for consideration by OETA (who has expressed preliminary interest) about a local urban legend, possibly having to do with a hate crime against a witch.

The legend centers on a property in Cleveland County, by Kitchen Lake. The property has a foundation and a chimney on it, and the story is that the house that used to be there was burned down (some versions say by neighbors) because a witch lived there. Now the witch (allegedly) haunts the area.

There is a bridge about a mile away, closer to Lake Stanley Draper. This area is also said to be haunted (probably by the same witch) .

A more precise location is not included here because the neighbors (all three of them) are really tired of kids coming around at all hours of the night, being really loud, and bothering them. Especially the neighbors closest to the bridge who are less than pleased about our project. We are concerned that continued aggravation will jeopardize our project.

If you have heard about this story, let us know HOW you heard about it. If you have heard about it through the internet, what were you looking for? We're trying to establish the time of origin of this legend, which we think is in the 1980s sometime (pre-internet!) but we haven't been able to get any more specific than that.

If you have been to this location and experienced spooky vibes or any other unusual activity, please call us at 525-2493. (LEAVE A MESSAGE. We're ignoring that line coz the collectors are still calling us from when we closed the shop. I'm sure you will understand.) If you have been with a ghost club that has investigated the area, I beg you, please call.

If the project is accepted for purchase, we will pay those whose interviews are cut into the final edit. At this time we have no idea what the budget will be or if there will be a budget, so please do not expect renumeration any time soon. =)

We are doing background research to determine if there is a story (determining the FACTS right now -- who owns the property, what happened to the bridge, was there even a fire? get the names of people and exact dates of things) . After that we'll weave the legend into it, try to figure out when and where the legend began.

The development phase is going on much longer than we thought, due to the research taking a different course than we expected. It's very exciting and we're thrilled with the chase. We're getting some fantastic background and the story is WAY not what we originally thought it would be.

We think you'll be pleased with the end result, out by spring (we can get some nice footage of the area when it turns green again) .

Please contact us as soon as possible, and if you go out there please remember to respect those who LIVE there. We would ask that you not remove anything from the "crime scene" either, heh heh.
