Wiccan Dis-inclusion???

Proclaimed by: NoireLion
Proclaimed from: Philadelphia, Pennsylvania

Proclamation... I've visited a number of Wiccan Groups recently in my area Philadelphia, PA. Perhaps this is a local thing (lets hope it is) , but perhaps it isn't just local.
In visiting local Wiccan Meetups and Public functions open to all- I'm receiving a lot of negative attention from other Wiccans.
Let me describe myself: I'm a male Witch and my skin is brown. Some powers that be describe me as African American others describe me as "black" (as there is nothing on my person that is actually black except my hair- I take the African American attribution) . I'm 6'3" (or 4") around 200 lbs with a slimmish medium build. I don't have a grimace or anything that would make people look in askance at me. I'm not a serial killer or a rapist or a robber. In fact I've been a soldier fighting for America in the All American Division of the US Army for a time (82nd Airborne's 505th Parachute Infantry Regiment) , I've worked with physically and mentally challenged folk trying to integrate them back into society from institutionalized "homes"- in part to alleviate some of the Karma that comes with being a front line combat soldier. I've worked in my own personal community as an organizer and "block captain" for a number of years fighting drugs and maintaining a place for children to play in my personal zone/street sans violence and drugs.
In short- I'm not the enemy. I'm a good guy with a good attitude and some few accomplishments with a family and property. I am a small but significant pillar in my own community.
So picture me a solitary Wiccan trying to become more familiar with the Crafts actual workings and when I show up at meetings etc. (I don't expect a red carpet to be run out or even for people to "speak" to me at all) - but what I find distressing is the almost hostility and fear- this "what are you doing here" sort of projection via looks and comments etc.. What is that all about? I mean the last place on Earth I would be expecting that sort of unenlightened nonsense would be at meetings with fellow Wiccans. "Perfect Love and Perfect Trust" - is that just an expression ? Some sort of bumper sticker? Or is "perfect love and perfect trust" actual manifestations of Wiccans?
No wonder so many are "solitaries" ... The acceptance and friendliness and human warmth one would doubtless expect from such groups is apparently only for people who look a certain way? Must all Wiccans look like you? Which is frankly flabbergasting. Is this why most Meetups and Public Wiccan functions are usually lily white?
I am thinking that the ranks of those who choose our faith and outlook on life are perhaps dwindled by these sorts of attitudes. Driving away the faithful who don't look quite like you seems inherently un-Wiccan. I'm not overly sensitive by a long shot. I must tell you since we haven't met. I've been in some places and situations that might make some others uncomfortable to say the least. But it is an unexpected blow to read all the Wiccan literature of harmony and acceptance and see that in reality- here in my area that the proof is not in that pudding.
Maybe this is just a local Philadelphia community phenomena and not part of the greater Wiccan US community- I just wondered and it seemed a valid topic to bring up for discussion. Is Wicca for a select group or open to all groups of the God and Goddess' children?
I ask you to look around at your Meetups and Public Wiccan functions. Just look. Then ask yourself this- where are the rest of The Lady and Her Consorts children?
