New Product In Production

Proclamation... 'An It Harm None' is the name of a new game currently in production:
An It Harm None, Do As Ye Will. That is the law. This is the basic tenet that is common to all Traditions of Wicca. From this we get all of the various moral codes and codes of conduct that we encounter in the myriad forms of our religion. And how is this? Some would say that it is a matter of interpretation, that different people with different viewpoints interpret the code differently. Still others would say that The Wiccan Rede; as it is known, needs no interpretation and should not be interpreted but taken literally. I believe it is not a matter of interpretation, but of application. Some are mainly focused on achieving harmony within, others on harmony without. Some work exclusively with herbs, others use minerals and oils. We all have different lives, and different challenges to overcome within those lives. True, many of our cares are the same, and we all have common goals more or less, but how we reach them encompasses many diverse paths. Naturally, we will apply things differently.
This game is designed to take an in-depth look at “The Code of the Wise, ” the 127 tenet suggested guideline of behaviour for the what was the Ascaroth Tradition. Oh now, you may be thinking, “If it really is the code of the wise, then why is it that the Ascaroth Tradition was, instead of is? If this is what the “wise” did, then why is there no more Ascaroth?” Well now this is a matter of perspective, in part. Some believe that in order to be a Tradition, there must be a certain minimum number of members. Others believe that it is possible to be a Tradition of one. I choose to believe that both are correct, depending on perspective, which to me has great bearing on what really constitutes reality. Also, as the only person that I know of, who still follows the Ascaroth path, I believe that I have a better view as to why it no longer exists as a group. It is my opinion that the reason for this is that the majority stopped following the Code.
The last game was about solving puzzles based on basic symbolism and basic craft knowledge. In this one, you’ll interact with other people, animals, plants, and situations. You’ll have to decide in each encounter or situation what is the right course of action for one who follows our path. Of course, different people might apply the Code differently, and so I’m building considerable leeway into the game. This then, is a game about a way of life, or a particular way of living. It consists of things that we do, but it isn’t about what we do; it is about what we are and why we do what we do.
So what does one get by playing the game? Some people only play games that allow them to score more points than anyone else. They want to have their name at the top of the scoreboard so that others can look up at it in envy. Others only play games that allow them to collect gold or silver coins or some other kind of treasure. And naturally, they want to be the gamer with the biggest pile of treasure. Still others only play games that allow them to defeat or conquer someone or something. To me this doesn’t bear any resemblance to real life. Though this game takes place in a fantasy-like graphical world, the game is geared toward real-life dilemmas and solutions.
Since this is a game about life, and about doing the right thing, what rewards can we expect for successfully completing it? Well, what rewards are there in life for doing the right thing? Ah; yes, there are some people who won’t do what they consider to be the right thing unless they will be rewarded for doing so. Usually I find these are the same people who will always do what they consider to be the wrong thing, unless the possible consequences for doing the wrong thing are worse than doing the right thing. I expect people to do the right thing, I really do. Not necessarily what I consider the right thing, but what they consider the right thing. I expect it, simply because it is the right thing to do, not on the basis of reward or punishment.
The final tenet of the Code is “Purpose determines reward.” Have you ever done something for another without thought to what they would give you in exchange? I have, and it is my consideration that the person in question owes me nothing, certainly no reward. I’ve already been rewarded. Because I was successful in helping her; my success, her being helped, is my reward, the only reward that matters. I believe it was the right thing to do.
In this game there are no points to earn, no high score lists, no best time lists, no treasure, and no territories to gain. Some might even say that there is no reward for completing the game. There is a reward, but you don’t get it from the program, me, or your neighbor down the street. The reward comes from within you, but only if you really want it, and it’s not something that you can hang on the wall and show off to your friends.
