Passing of Joseph "Bearwalker" Wilson

Proclaimed by: Sana Karine
Proclaimed from: Knoxville, Tennessee

Proclamation...

Condolences to 1734 Tradfolk and kin.

Joseph B. Wilson, a teacher of natural magic, a rootwork practitioner, a shaman and a Witch, passed away Tuesday, August 3rd of complications from emphysema. Joe had long suffered with lung disease and was very open in discussions of his terminal illness, so his death was not a surprise... but he had just finished a new book on shamanism, and was looking forward to publishing it, even as his condition worsened.

Many know of Joe through his writing, or visiting some of his web sites such as http://www.josephbwilson.com and http://www.jbwilson.com. He was the founder of 1734, the Toteg Tribe, and Metista, and was a significant influence and teacher for a number of notable individuals and Traditions.

It is the hope of many that his websites and his writings can continue to be kept available and intact, as a memorial to Joe's lifetime of work.

In the meantime, Joe's wife could use help meeting the expenses associated with his death. If Joe's work ever touched you, and if you are able, please send a donation to the family to help cover expenses and perhaps to see his final book into print. Catherine Yronwode, hoodoo historian and one of Joe's longtime associates, is assisting to coordinate donations and assistance. Contact information is available by calling Lucky Mojo at 707-887-1521 during business hours.
