Sacred Space Conference Returns in 2008

Proclaimed by: Jesta Wolfesdottir
Proclaimed from: Arlington, Virginia

Proclamation... After a three-year hiatus, Sacred Space Foundation is pleased to announce the reconvening of its conference, Sacred Space XVIII, January 18-21, 2008 at the Holiday Inn West Laurel in Laurel, Maryland. The Sacred Space Conference is a conference of esoteric and mystical religions that serves as an annual mystery school for the mid-Atlantic region.
The Sacred Space Conference, first held in 1987, was an annual event until 2005. The Conference has always been eclectic and esoteric in nature. Past themes have included a series on the five elements, a series on the wheel of the year, and a series on the world tree. Teachers as diverse as Dolores Ashcroft-Nowicki, Black Lotus, Isaac Bonewits, Ellen Cannon Reed, Dennis Carpenter, Roger Coleman, Andras Corban Arthen, Ivo Dominguez Jr., Lilith Dorsey, Elspeth and Nybor, Selena Fox, Kveldulf Gundarsson, David Honigsberg, Alexei Kondratiev, Katherine Kurtz, Jane Sibley, Mark Stavish, James C. Welch, Michael Weisberg, and Shakmah Winddrum, have presented over the years.
Conference attendees choose from a mix of lectures, panel discussions, participatory workshops, rituals, and even “make it and take it arts and crafts” activities. There is usually a bardic circle and often at least one healing circle. Class topics may cover magickal systems such as oghams, runes, and Tarot; astrology, Kabballah, and alchemy; studies of various traditions; magickal techniques such as chanting, meditation and sacred dance. Classes are offered at all levels, from newcomer to experienced. Conference presenters usually make their publications and other materials available for sale. Other vendors offer related items.
After 2005 the Conference went on hiatus. A new Board was formed in November 2006 and the revived Sacred Space Conference has been scheduled for January 2008. Its theme, appropriately enough, is “The Resurrection of Osiris: Gods of Sacrifice and Transformation.” Selena Fox, internationally known Wiccan Priestess and Pagan Elder, has agreed to be the first Keynote Presenter. Selena's approach to spirituality emphasizes communion with Nature, and blends together ancient and contemporary European and American folkways, Wiccan traditions, multicultural shamanism and transpersonal psychology.
Selena has been a Wiccan Priestess and Pagan artist since 1973. She is the founder and co-executive director of Circle Sanctuary, a Nature Spirituality resource center in Wisconsin. Selena also founded Circle Magazine, Lady Liberty League and the Pagan Academic Network. She is one of America's best-known Pagan religious activists. Over the years, Selena and her work have been featured on various national and global media. She has spoken at many national and international conferences, and presented workshops and rituals in settings as varied as colleges and universities, festivals, churches and healing centers. Selena has been published in a variety of periodicals, anthologies, and other publications. She is author of Goddess Communion Rituals and Meditations, and When Goddess is God. Selena and Lady Liberty League have also been prominent activists in the Quest for the Veterans’ Pentacle, a ten-year struggle with the U. S. Department of Veterans Affairs to obtain the Wiccan Pentacle as an approved religious emblem for use on federally funded memorial markers and gravestones. This will be the fourth time Selena has shared her wisdom and insight with participants at Sacred Space.
Additional information about the conference, including registration information, will be available soon.
