CROOKED WOMAN SLIDES DOWN PRUNE HILL-LANDS AT WESTFIELD/VANCOUVER MALL Locals follow Trail of Viking and Celtic wares in desperate search to find lost Camas woman
Are you a Viking? If you have ancestors that came from Northern Europe, you probably have somewhere in your bloodline-a Viking relative. That is what camas Artist’s Jeremy White and Tara Kloida-White have found in discussions with their customers at the Portland Saturday Market. “Viking actually means Pirate” White says, “ but they were actually known as the Norse Men by most”. To connect to their Viking /Celtic/Frisian heritage, the camas couple started creating symbolic pendants and charms in hopes to share the beauty in the historic symbolism of their ancestors.
Recently, the Whites decided to take a leap and move from the Portland Saturday Market to the Westfield/Vancouver Mall. “It is a great marriage-the mall is cozy, warm and dry which is a great canopy for us in the winter season, and we bring something extremely unique with an amazing value -for the Westfield customers”. “The public reception has been fabulous”, says White, “We are obviously filling a gap in the market. The store, named The Crooked Woman, features symbolic pendants and charms that represent the ideas of Love, Energy, Mystical, Celtic, Viking, Fairy, Runes, Earth, and Stone. Fairy doors also abound-whimsical, hand detailed, and made of durable stoneware, they are popular in Europe, but hard to find here in the States. “Most Fairy Doors sold online or commercially are resin and made in China- we take great pride that our product is made by us, here in the USA-and in particular, Camas, WA.
If successful, The Whites plan to continue at Westfield /Vancouver after the holidays. Examples of their work can be found at their website www.thecrookedwoman.com. Kloida-White also sculpts relief tiles in the style of the early Arts and Crafts period-and has an established website-www.tarakloida.com.
