Hello all!
My name is Erin, I'm 18 and a Cancer. I'm currently in my second year studying Arts at Monash Uni, majoring in anthropology, history, philosophy and religion and loving every minute! (ok, that's a lie, the exam part is not so fun) . I live on campus, which for me can be pretty difficult because I'm a fairly solitary person, and am travelling to England in September to study for a few months. I can't wait, I've wanted to go pretty much all my life - it's a joke in my family that I was born on the wrong continent because my heart has always seemed to lie in Europe, plus its just too bloody hot here for me! I'm much more of a winter person. Greenland would prbably be perfect for me.
I absolutely love reading, mainly fantasy fiction, and my fav authors, at least for the moment, are Raymond Feist and Traci Harding. I also love Harry Potter (of course!) , the Wicca series by Cate Tiernan and the Twilight series (guilty pleasure) . I also really enjoy a number of sci-fi tv shows, a fact that always amuses my friends and prompts them to call me a nerd (probably fairly true) , as well as a lot of supernatural ones (what can I say, I'd love it if when you cast a spell the room would fill with mist and lights would appear, it'd add to the atmosphere) . Rambling is also one of my passions (as you may have already guessed by now) , closely followed by arguing... ;)
Finding people who are interested in Witchcraft, Wicca or whatever, out here is pretty hard, and I'm pretty much alone in my beliefs among my friends and family (except for the wonderful Jess, who would whack me in the head if I didn't mention that ;) ) , apart from my mum who, luckily for me, understands that I'm not about to play death metal in the backyard while sacrificing a goat. I was lucky enough that my aunt, her sister, was also a Witch, so she knows quite a bit about my practices... although I still had to explain why I wanted black candles and no, I wasn't planning on summoning demons in my bedroom...
I'm still not sure what type of Witchcraft I prefer, though I think I might just be eccletic forever as the traditions I've come across don't really interest me. I'm interested in the Celtic pantheon and some of their beliefs and practices, although I don't really follow them myself, and I find voodoo unnerving but interesting at the same time. I basically believe in the God and Goddess and that their aspects are shown in what mood they're in - yeah, I've been told that's strange. I believe in reincarnation, and I have strong empathic talent, though untrained, which regularly drives me nuts, and will probably continue to until I can come up with a proper shield. I'm interested in dream working and can naturally lucid dream which is a lot of fun, and I'm looking for info on astral projection, herbal magick and working with the elements.
At the moment my passion (and I use that term reluctantly as it has become quite cliche) is learning and coming up with ideas on the metaphysics of Witchcraft. While I doubt I could (or am inclined) to come up with something incredibly thought out and argued in proper philosophical form, I am very much interested in trying to figure out the why behind Witchcraft - why magick works, why is reincarnation a good idea, the nature of the gods etc. I haven't gotten very far yet though I've found that physics is a very good source of inspiration.
