Well, I guess to start I'd have to say I'm part of the very small number of ethnic minorities in the Asatru/Vanatru faith. I'm largely a solo practitioner, although I have ties to the local eclectic pagan group and have recently trothed to become a Journeyman in the Heathen Freehold Society of British Columbia. I entered into Asatru back in 1997, when I found info on it at the Raven Kindred website while researching pagan faiths (having started down the pagan path in late 1995) , it 'clicked' with me and I've followed it ever since.
I'm Scottish, English, Blackfoot and Irish on my mothers side, and Kikuyu (a tribe in Kenya) on my father's side. I have a few years of university studying history and anthropology under my belt, and have been a member of the militia (the Canadian Army Reserves) since 1999. I've volunteered and deployed twice with the army, once to Bosnia in 2000 and to Afghanistan in 2008. I'm currently preparing to deploy again to Afghanistan.
At the moment, and usually on leave blocks, I'm working on becoming a professional scuba diver. I'm already qualified PADI Open Water and Advanced Open Water, as well as Deep, Night, Wreck, Underwater Naturalist and a NitrOx/Enriched Air specialist. I love the underwater environment and I'm planning to do commercial diving and scientific diving courses as well.
