Wandering Star's Profile...
I’m more of a seeker these days… I was Wiccan in my early 20s, but don’t identify as such at the moment. There are a couple of reasons for that shift – really boiled down to being uncomfortable with the heterocentrism I tended to encounter in Wicca, and not having a supportive spiritual community around me. So basically, I ended up taking a break from any kind of religious practice.
But over the past few years I’ve felt “called” (it really does feel like a call) to walk my spiritual path again. It started with meditating regularly, being mindful, and just consciously appreciating nature, but you know, then I was building an altar, and leaving cups of milk and whiskey out for the Fae again, and casting a circle for Imbolc…
Most of my practice today is probably best described as eclectic Paganism, but I’ve been exploring various traditions – mostly Traditional Witchcraft and Feri right now, and reading a lot of mythology (Hellenic, Germanic, Celtic, mostly) . I’m also learning more about the Western Qabalah – this was inspired by my experience with the Tarot, which definitely plays a central role in my spirituality. Magic does too – in addition to Wiccan ritual, I draw on kitchen witchery, hoodoo, and stuff I learned from my Nana. Not that I am especially learned or experienced – I would consider myself more of a student at the moment. I am open to committing myself to a particular tradition, but I need to feel things out a bit right now, and haven’t really found a group I’m up to joining just yet. We’ll see.
I've also been getting together with a couple folks recently who are sort of exploring the notions of “queer paganism” and "queer witchcraft”. That's been interesting. FYI - I consider myself queer, not gay, but the form didn't give me that option....
