Noinden's Profile...
Bandia Duit (Goddess be with you in Irish Gaelic)
I am Gareth Thomas aka Noinden Tain. I was ( till I moved back to New Zealand) the Grove Organizer of Twisted Tree Protogrove, ADF. This official ADF Protogrove which serves south eastern Wisconsin. They provide public ritual, teaching, and outreach to the local community.
What do I mean by Indo-European? Indo-European is a Linguistic term, and also a cultural one. I am typing (and you are reading) an Indo-European language (English) , and probably living in an Indo-European Culture. The Indo-European Language tree includes many languages (just click on this link, and I will stop lecturing ;) http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Indo-European_languages ) .
The ADF is a Pan Indo European (PIE) organization, and not exclusively “Celtic” (whatever that means to you) . It can include Gaelic (Irish or Scots) , Cymirc (Welsh) , British, Gaulish “Celtic” paths, Roman, Greek, Slavic, Persian, Vedic, and even what is known as Proto Indo European, rites. We do not stray outside Indo-European ways, but that is a rather large chunk of the Archaic Pagan world to work with.
I’ve been a member of the ADF since 2000, currently I hold the Chieftain position on the Council of Honor of the Warriors Guild, I am also a member (student) of Kerr Cuhulain’s Wiccan, teaching Coven. I have been published in online and print pagan periodicals, most recently the Winter 2009 Circle Magazine. I have also taught workshops for the last 5 years in Milwaukee, from Pagan Warriorship, to ADF Druidry. I lead the opening ritual at Milwaukee Pagan Unity Council’s 2010 Ostara festival, we had 150 participants!
My personal hearth culture is that of the Pre-Christian Gaelic Irish. I hold both Lugh and the Morrigan as my Patron and Matron, though Thor, the Dagda, and Ogma sniff around the edges of my life very often. I also consider myself a Neopagan Scholar. By that I mean I love to learn.
I firmly believe that there is no scarcity of power in the world. By this I mean you can take on as much or as little as you feel capable of doing, no one can take this from you. No one can threaten your “power” or position, only you can let go of these. I feel that if more people realized this, that there would be less strife and discord in the world. I also feel that each person is personally responsible for their own actions. No one makes you act in a certain way, you choose to do so yourself. So own it. If I screw up, I own and atone for it. One virtue which I hold that every single Pagan should follow (be you Wiccan, Heathen, Druid, or whatever) is the Proto Indo European idea of *ghos-ti, this is the (reconstructed) concept which both Host and Guest can be traced back to. It speaks to a reciprocal relationship between guest and host. Not only do you need to be either a good guest or a gracious host, but the other role needs to be filled too. This holds to all relationships, be this throwing a party, or the relationship with the Shinning ones (Gods) , Mighty Ones (Ancestors) and Noble Ones (spirits of the Land) .
Saol fada chugat (Long life to You)
Gareth
