I am a practising witch living in Chesterfield. I identify primarily as a northern girl (Yorkshire) but I have been settled in Chesterfield for several years now. I live with my husband who is several years my senior and who is sympathetic toward my beliefs without being actively involved. (I have perfect trust that when my room of solitude door is closed, he would only disturb me in the event of a house fire.)
During the daylight hours I work as a mortgage advisor. I have struggled at times to reconcile this job with the spiritual aspects of my personality but I have found that there are a lot of opportunities in the world of banking to provide help and support to others. This altruism has helped me to see my job as fulfilling and (occasionally) ...enjoyable.
I am somewhat of an animal lover and have filled our home with various creatures. We have five cats, seven tarantulas, two geckos, tropical fish and four degus. The degus in particular are very much my pets. And they manage to cause more havoc than the rest of the house put together. They also eat any books they come across. Oh the sacriledge of having my beloved TS Eliot poetry chewed by those impertinent rodents....
I have a degree in English and Philosophy. Not that I'm a great academic these days. I still read widely and on a range of different interests but I have to admit that I'm completely addicted to romance novels. Not only do I read them, I write them. I'm about to finish my fourth and then I really ought to start looking around for a publisher.
I'm interested in history as well, primarily in the period between the Wars of the Roses and James 1 (and yes, I'm aware that covers rather a lot of years!) .
Socially, I'm rather fond of drinking red wine and talking too much. I'm very unlikely to be found in a nightclub but perhaps a little too likely to be found looking sadly down the neck of an empty bottle of Merlot and wondering where the evening went....
My friends can certainly be considered to be supportive of my beliefs but few of them actually identify as pagan. This is a bit of a shame as I rarely get the opportunity to share and discuss my spirituality with like minded people. However I am lucky enough to be part of some very close and supportive online communities and have made a lot of friends and acquaintances that way...shame most of them live too far away for a visit to the pub!
About my path
I mainly practise as a solitary though I have recently taken on an apprentice and am enjoying the input of ideas and imagination from another person (I don't teach, I guide) .
I follow an intensely personal path derived from many different sources. I embrace the idea of balance and in particular the balance of the dark and the light. I do not adhere to a specific moral creed but I have a strong idea of personal morality and the work I do and the life I lead is governed by an intention to do what I discern to be the right thing.
I work in quite a structured manner and complete formal ritual at least weekly. My circle work is very deity focused and again I am developing the idea of balance, trying to move away from a primarily Goddess focused worship and incorporating the more masculine aspect of the God into my rituals. I do not adhere to a specific pantheon, though my vision of the deities would probably be closest to Celtic mythology.
I strive for continual development of myself as a person. To this end I spend time meditating and using crystals. I try to be critically aware of the way my life affects other people. I believe very much in the oft quoted: "A witch must tread lightly on the world."
I'm the founder of the website www.witchpathforward.com which incorporates "Ask a Witch a Question" and my own personal blog. I've get real satisfaction from helping to point young witches and those in trouble toward safer waters.
Being a witch is an integral part of who I am and touches all areas of my life.
