I found solitude in the first months of my deployment. At first I railed against it, seeking out company wherever I could find it, for better or worse. All these interactions have caused reflections, on both the me-of-now and the me-that-was, and I have come to see myself clearly. Now, more carefully, I seek the company of others who possess the seemingly rare ability to see themselves honestly, and the courage to neither fear nor despise what they find, even in their darkest recesses.
