Elayne's Profile...

Hello, my name is Elayne Lockhart and I am a 4th generation witch. Yes, that makes me a hereditary and there arenít many of us around. My great, great aunt was trained as a witch in the 1880ís. She was the 1st witch in my family that I am aware of. My great, great aunt passed her knowledge to my grandma, who passed it to my mom. They passed it on to me and, of course, I passed the tradition on to my children. I feel so blessed to have been brought up in such an amazing tradition with such powerful women.

Our path is very organic. Growing up in the country, I was taught to honor and work with the spirits of the land and to respect nature. I learned to read signs & portents, and to fire scry. As part of our tradition we worship, weave magic, do healing work, and readings. Our tools are simple: the altar stone/disk, broom, staff & cauldron. In our tradition we do not call quarters, use ceremonial tools, and seldom do we cast circles.

My fatherís side of the family is Irish, Scots and Welsh. When I was about 4 years old, Arianrhod and Cernunnos came to me. They and others of the Celtic Pantheon have been with me ever since. To honor Them, I also practice Celtic Spirituality. Though I have traced my fatherís ancestry to 1665 Salem, Massachusetts, I havenít yet found any witches on my dadís side.

In 1992, I became a public witch while working at a metaphysical bookstore. I am frequently sought out by newspapers, television and magazines as an expert in my field. I lecture, offer classes on witchcraft, the esoteric arts and training in a Celtic spiritual path. Currently I am on the Board of Directors for The Order of the Sacred Wheel which offers public rituals and events. Once a month, I moderate Stirring the Cauldron, a pagan discussion group, at The Mystic Dream in Walnut Creek, CA.
