Erica Alikchihoo's Profile...
Let me tell you a little about me. My full name is Erica Alikchihoo. That's pronounced Ah - lick - she - hoe, and it comes from two Chickasaw words: Aliktce - which means healer, and ihoo-himita, which means woman. The name was chosen in 1995 when I felt the need to redefine who I was after having been someone's daughter, and then someone's wife for way too many years.
I'm 57 years old, lesbian, and the proud mother of 2 gorgeous women, age 35 and 37, and grandmother of three sweet little boys.
I was raised a fundamentalist Christian, but left the church at the age of 34 when the Goddess, furious with my silliness, made herself known to me in a very dramatic and unforgettable way. I've never looked back.
I've been involved in the Dianic tradition for 17 years, having studied with a teacher who trained in the Circle of Aradia and Moon Birch Grove in southern California, so I guess you could say that I'm a second or third-generation student of both Z Budapest and Ruth Barrett. I was co-priestess for a local Dianic teaching circle (Moon Mysteries: A Circle of Women) from 1993 to 1999. Our core group of 13 women was very active and involved in community issues, from creating food drives, to doing volunteer work for battered women's
shelters and children's homes, to participating in ecology clean-up days and anti-war protests.
I have participated in our local Pagan community in several ways. . . . I've facilitated song and chant workshops, taught classes and been a guest speaker at Wings Metaphysical Bookstore, led two large Dianic community rituals, and have been involved in Dragonfest - a huge weeklong pagan gathering in the mountains.
My practice now is more focused on helping other womyn help themselves, from creating healing or empowerment rituals for their own use, to helping them see the broader application of their magickal acts for their lives and the lives of their families and communities. My primary personal focus right now is expanding my horizons - learning how I fit into the universe and about the different ways I can manifest Goddess and let her work through me to accomplish change.
I work full-time at the Colorado Department of Health Care Policy and Financing, in the Medicaid Program Divison. I have a small business making Goddess rosaries, head-dresses, and specialty beaded bracelts for your medic-alerts (with matching earrings, if desired) .
