OUR BACKYARD GARDEN
I am Kali in the garden,
Destroyer of the branches that impede the flight of Lily’s rope swing,
Clearing the weed moat around the tree castle,
Sifting mud from the rock garden,
Mulching the Sargasso Sea, so the goldfish can breathe,
Terrible Mother protecting the pleasure of her Children.
Daniel is the Greenman,
Serenading dragonfliees and bumblebees with the voice of his guitar,
Sower of seeds and harmony,
Coaxing the flowers to take turns,
Daffodils, Irises, Phlox, Tigerlilies, Mandevilla, Black-eyed Susans,
All that lives responds to his loving touch.
Lily is the Faery Princess,
Spirit of the garden, creator of the sacred space,
Harbinger of love and youthful laughter,
Knows the whisper of the trees,
Singing green into the spring,
She is our shining jewel of this sylvan glen.
