Some perceive me as being pretentious or strange when I mention my gifts, so I have learned to keep my visions, the voices I hear, and my intuition to myself. It is not easy to live in this world with such gifts. For generations my family has spoken ignorantly about seeing or hearing spirits, being touched or pestered by them. As a child I was frightened by the stories, and I had hoped they were all fabricated by my mother and her seven brothers and sisters. As I grew older I found that I too could feel the sensation of the air moving around me, and the hair standing up on my skin and I found it rather entertaining. I began to seek out their source through the typical Ouija board experiments, but I never really trusted others who participated. I am in my thirties now and I understand my abilities more. I opened this account several months back and began to read about other people’s experiences hoping to learn more about those who are like me. I bought several books, went to the library, and I have spoken with Wiccans and pagans alike about where I am in my journey. A new friend, who owns a metaphysical store, said to me "You have a religion; you do not need another religion. You must find your path and learn to meditate and be who you are meant to be." I believe that he has given me the soundest advice of all.
Since then I accepted that I am not Wiccan. My experiences began long before I acknowledged a God at all. I do believe in God and in my mind he is masculine. I am okay with that, because that is how I perceive him. At the same time, I also perceive him as having feminine qualities that nurture, and love me, so my God is a whole being with both masculine and feminine qualities. I feel that I have been created to have a free will and that I can bring in good or bad energy, and I have the ability to channel both. I focus on being positive and working positive energy.
I have struggled for a long while with the notion that I am a witch, but didn’t know it. I am still not sure about it. I do not own any of the tools to practice witchcraft, but I don't need them. I have friends who are witches and they are fascinated with my ability to know peoples names and call them out. It happens so often. When I hear a person’s name, I always relay the message that is in my heart. It is funny, but usually it is a message of “you are loved and blessed”. I always try to give positive energy, and when in a room full of people I can feel my energy being pulled from me. I once went to a huge Southern Baptist Church and almost instantly felt drained. I thought that was strange, because I had always been told that church people where happy and full of love… anyway, I believe the gifts of my family come from Native American and Celtic roots.
I am still searching, learning to meditate, and still open to what may come to me. I have a healthy respect for those in the spiritual realm, and I understand that I must be responsible with my gift.
