Paul B. Rucker

Magickal Path: Pagan Mystic Age Group: Adult Occupation: Artist, Creative Raconteur Gender: Male Relationship Status: Single Sexual Orientation: Gay
Located in: Minneapolis, Minnesota

Likes: Art, Beauty, Passion, Transformative Vision, Sensual Pleasures, Intimate Friends, Mythic Theater, Ecstatic Ritual Community, Creativity, Cunning Ideas, Original Thinkers, Stimulating Discourse, Replacing Boredom with Enchantment, and Making Culture! And More....
Dislikes: Lack of Art, Lack of Passion, Lack of Magic. The idea that "culture" and "community" are the same. Meanheartedness, flakiness, apathy. The mistaking of needless drama for depth of passion. Lack of realness, lack of follow-through, lack of manifestation. Chaos, too-much-input, needless upgrades. "Lessons" instead of "Teachers."
Paul B. Rucker's Profile...
For me, the expression of art and skill with magic, beauty and humor compels my interest-- experiencing *ekstasis* commands my desire. To that aim, I find the arts the most vital current of expression in the making of a mythopoetic, earth-alive culture.
"Find out who you are and then do it like mad." (Quentin Crisp) "If I can't dance, I don't want to be part of your revolution." (attr. Emma Goldman) "It is better to ask forgiveness than permission." (Mae West) I think I could put almost all of my REAL work as an artist or a Pagan right amidst these quotes! In my personal reality, no one waits to be given permission to make beauty and ecstasy-- sensual and creative passion will always win out over political correctness and academic rectitude. I tend to get along best with eccentric and original self-thinkers who have at least one foot on the ground. I love to express the Mercurius in myself through speech, song, ideation, reading/writing, thinking, dialectic, convocation, selling, connecting and networking! (And talking too much.) One of my great joys is to connect people I know with similar core passions, just to see what they come up with together. It's like being a social alchemist....
My art always alludes in some way to story, myth, or a transcendent context for the ennobled human being. I see my work as ongoing dispatches from a miraculous theater of myth and meaning, out there, in the Otherworld. The Mysterious Ones meet us halfway in vision and art, cloaked in personas that let us touch what is otherwise unknowable. For years I have explored this connection through paintings, creating images that open portals like living icons-- the most of famous these to date is my image of "Melek Ta'us, " the Peacock Angel of the Yezidi and a primary deity of Feri Witchcraft.
In recent years I have explored this portal from the other direction-- in effect *becoming* a portal through adopting an "enchanted" guise-- a "Magickal Personality" taken out of the temple and into other environments charged with intent. My most notable example of this so far is my "Blue Man" character, which has appeared at three Faerieworlds festivals so far, and has attracted national attention (My image in this guise appeared in MAXIM magazine in August 2008, and will be featured in photographer Kyer Wiltshire's collection, TRIBAL REVIVAL, not to mention having been utilized many times in media relations for this event.)
At the time of this writing I have been hard at work to reify, organize and consolidate my activities over the last 20 years.
