Rev. Matthew Bartky's Profile...
Hello all! My name is Matt. I'm ordained by the ULC of Modesto California, and by Sacred Wind Sanctuary, an Eclectic Pagan Congregation, for which I am Pastor. I am also currently a Reiki II Practitioner. I am a Local Coordinator and President of Central New Jersey Pagan Pride Project, Inc, and the current Monmouth County Coordinator for the Garden State Pagan Alliance.
I am an Eclectic Wiccan, and a solitary. Though I consider myself a solitary, it doesn't mean I only practice alone. I also practice with several close associates, holding Esbats, and of course the Sabbat rituals and celebrations through Sacred Wind Sanctuary. Being a solitary doesn't mean you have to work exclusively alone. It means that you don't require anyone else to practice. Each and every Pagan, regardless of specific path, is capable and qualified to honor the Gods, the Earth, and themselves, holding true our virtues and beliefs, and working our magicks - without the aid of another or group. True, groups provide a great environment for learning, but those truly dedicated to the paths can, and do, quite successfully find a manner and method to learn by.
Many turn to me for guidance, and I am indeed quite happy to lend it. I am a Priest of the Gods, as are all followers of the Pagan paths. I am indeed quite knowledged in their ways, and also in the reasons and history behind them. I am also the eternal student, for one can never know all there is to be known. As such, I am always happy to help guide others who seek advice. I am also humble enough to admit when I don't know something, but will make every effort to find the answer, both for you as well as myself.
My recommended books, in some order, for beginners are:
The Truth about Witchcraft Today - Scott Cunningham Wicca - Scott Cunningham Living Wicca - Scott Cunningham
Wicca for Life - Raymond Buckland (Coven based, but useful for solitary) Wicca for One - Raymond Buckland
Earth Power: Techniques of Natural Magic - Scott Cunningham Earth, Air, Fire, and Water: More Techniques of Natural Magic - Scott Cunningham
There are plenty more books, and many more authors. But this makes a good start. Cunningham and Buckland are two of the most influential Wiccans in American Wicca, so they're great sources.
