Honeycomb's Profile...
Before the beginning, there was One Spirit. She existed alone, in relation to nothing, with no mirror to reflect her, and she did not understand herself as she desired greatly to do. And so she split herself apart, into all the things and beings that ever were, are, will be, and could be, and set them to be exactly as they were, are, will be, could be, until she could see at last everything that she is, all the light and dark and grey, all the kind and fierce and careless.
We each sense the former unity. We catch echoes of it in ourselves, in our relations with each other, with the earth and stars. It is this unity which allows us to connect energetically, to recognize the divine spark in everyone. There is a yearning for the former wholeness, yet there is still the yearning for the desired separateness. We are together and we are apart. There is simultaneously the One Spirit who is in everything and who, outside of time, is still one, and the diversity, including all the parts of Unity that became, become, will be, could be deities.
That's my polytheistic monotheism, and I'm sticking to it.
I'll also stand with the Shinto priest quoted by Joseph Campbell: ""I don't think we have ideology. We don't have theology. We dance."
If I change something within myself, if I create or destroy, it touches and changes the whole; it dances outward. As within, so without. That's magic. Dion Fortune called magic "the art of changing consciousness at will." If I can hold both visions, the whole and the separate, and see the truth beyond that makes both real, and erases the contradiction; if I can move back and forth between those worlds, and stand between them, using one vision to change the other; if I can be the eternal actor and the part I currently play; if all those things, then I am doing magic.
Sorry, I don't do the toad thing. Meddling never works out the way you plan; watch any decent episode of Twilight Zone. To work magic outside myself, I make myself the magic.
