Praxiteles's Profile...

It's very hard to know what to write in an internet profile listing . . .

Like many people, I feel that I don't fit well into any of the categories that people reach for, even pagans. I have a serious background in physics and engineering and work in this field, and yet I am not a materialist or an atheist. Nor, however, am I inclined to swallow groundless new age or metaphysical teachings, nor the teachings of organized religions! I don't "believe" in things. Instead I work from what I have directly experienced and its implications. I don't care if I can "prove" these things to others, but I DO care that I can prove them to myself (although "prove" is not exactly the right word) . Even so, I have done quite a lot of research/reading in the paranormal and in parapsychology, and I have no doubt that the dogmas of scientific materialism are, quite simply, wrong, and have been scientifically proven so. Mind and matter are intimately connected. Minds and minds are connected. "psi" is real. Hard scientific experiments have verified this beyond a shadow of a doubt. So-called "skeptics" (they are more accurately called "scoffers") are fond of repeating the mantra that "there isn't a shred of evidence" for this sort of thing. But they are wrong. There is an overwhelming amount of evidence. (I'm sure I'm preaching to the choir here, in this part of the internet, but that's my point. I personally won't rest with that. I feel it's very important to challenge and investigate one's own convictions and world views.) On top of that, I have personally experienced these things, and I use them to navigate and make my way through the world. This is one of the main reason I became a witch, and why I study witchcraft, paganism, and the occult. Beyond that, morally and ethically, I find the tenants of paganism in general to best reflect my own experience and views. My worldview is profoundly polytheistic and pagan and "green". And, well, ritual is just fun, amazing, wonderful, incredible stuff! As for deity, gods, goddesses, well, I have also directly experienced this, and I love that paganism in general, and witchcraft in particular, has such a fluid conception of it. I have my own patron (or matron?) goddess--or rather SHE has me--and I love all the rich pantheons and particular gods and goddesses and all the many other divine and semi-divine entities found there. And I would NOT be the one to call any of them "just an aspect" of "The God" or "The Goddess" or "The Divine". No way! And yet, of course, I would never deny that they all are, in some way or another, aspects of the divine, of divinity. I don't know how it all fits together, and I doubt I ever will, but I also don't feel that I need to know this intellectual theological information in order to make a connection to this realm, and to lead a much richer and more interesting and powerful life.

OK. Well, I don't know if this effort here is any better than my likes and dislikes above, but, what the hell, there it is. I am currently trying once again to form a group, perhaps even a coven. If you are a thoughtful, "serious" pagan, please feel free to contact me!

Thanks for reading.
