Likes: Returned smiles; truth and honesty; lessons learned; working resolutions; when a friend holds my hand; and people who have much love in their heart, especially those who've faced great pain and still find that life is worth living now more than ever.

Dislikes: Titles. Dishonesty to self; hatred and intolerance; ignorance combined with unwillingness to learn; premature judgement; when someone wrongly presumes that spirituality is incompatible with originality, or that one path is somehow more valid than another.

Phronesus Disegno's Profile...

I would imagine anyone who visits the WitchVox site has always known there is "something else" out there that cannot be measured by today's scientific standards. Whatever it is and however it is defined, we know it's there.

Now to tell you the truth, I actually don't know that there are significant differences between a Mage and a Magician, except that Mage is a little fancier-sounding, and the average person thinks a Magician just pulls rabbits out of his hat. Well, I'm not here to impress anybody with self-assigned and self-proclaimed labels, so I shall stick to describing my spiritual path as that of the Magician. And if I'm feeling feisty, then Mage it is. ;-)

By academic education, I am a type of scientist. My spiritual path would seem to defy my profession. But Magicians see Science and Magick as being very interrelated, in which Magick is really the Science of hidden relations. As an example to this, you yourself may have experienced your own real effects of Magick, even when the cause for those effects was not entirely obvious. This Magician studies the interrelations between Mantic and Magick, the anomalous causes and effects, respectively.

The words "imagination", "magic", "mage" and "magician" all have the same linguistic roots. A Magician knows that the purpose of the imagination is to see the possible in the actual, and by doing this, potential is created. In more abstract terms, such potential is achieved by creating recursive feed-forward and feed-back loops, which incidentally makes the symbol for infinity drawn with the Magician's wand, and the wand itself is symbolic of imagined potential uniting and flowing in a singular direction, directed by the Magician himself. Imagination allows the Magician to project himself into the presence of possibilities and the consequences that would follow. After all, thoughts can extend both spacially and temporally. So what are you waiting for? Extend those thoughts! :-)

One of the most interesting challenges for a Magician is uniting energies that initially appear to be at polar opposites, or chaotic energies. The real Magick happens when those energies are coupled, or ordered, constructing entirely new realities that exist somewhere beyond the old but has not yet become the new. This is a very inspirational time period, limited only by the Magician's creativity. When thoughts and action (again, seemingly different energies) come together, they become a sort of emergent property that is deliberate and meaningful. Kinda reminds me when I was a kid, all the wonderful possibilities I had with Play-Dough and Silly Putty. And let's not forget all the things I made with Tinker Toys! I guess there's no wonder why I'm a computer scientist. I like writing programs that create utter chaos. Just kidding. I'm not really inclined to think the way Micro$oft does. :-)

And for this Magician, do you know what the most important and influential tools are? They're "communication" and "interaction" in all of their aspects, it doesn't matter whether they are between two people or between a person and his beloved puppy-dog, because they result in information exchange and the creation of new meaning, causing the necessary transformations between Magician himself and his surrounding environment.

Red and white are the symbolic colors of a Magician, where red represents passionate and enthusiastic energy and white represents sincere and pure intentions. Together, they represent the practical skill of uniting unrelated energies. The name for this practical skill is "techne", which shares the same root as the word "technical". So you see, seemingly opposite or unrelated energies such as Physics and Metaphysics aren't so incompatible after all, because combining them is where the real Magick is. Seeing the possible in the impossible, it works I tell you! And anyway, it stands true in all cases that things are only impossible until they are not, and that is the bridge that allows science to eventually explain just a bit more perspicuously what the imagination can conceive and the mind to believe to be true. Thus the phrases, "That which is above is like to that which is below, and that which is below is like to that which is above, to accomplish the miracles of the one thing. That which was is as that which will be, and that which will be is as that which was, to accomplish the miracles of eternity."

Because after all, we exist somewhere in the middle of it all, amongst the miracles where all the fun is. It doesn't matter if there are people in this world who think Magick is just a figment of the imagination, because when it comes down to it, they are exactly right. Imagination is truly an integral part of real Magick, so why not imagine more happiness?

Speaking of that, try this: Visualize World Peace. Now, visualize Whirled Peas. :-) True world peace begins at home with what you have in your heart and how it touches the lives of the people closest to you. True whirled peas are fun to visualize. :-) There's no need to be serious all the time, as a spiritual path is most effective when it brings pure joy to a person's life. My personal experience suggests that you know you're on the right path when you are able to find something to be happy about every day of your life. So let's try to make the best of it, shall we, and have a little fun while we're at it...

Wanna watch me pull a rabbit out of my hat? :-) (poof!) Wait a minute, that's not a rabbit. Looks like a bottle of dandruff shampoo. I think my hat's trying to tell me something...
