I'm really interested in belief systems that pattern after old mythologies or religions. There isn't really a word for what I follow - If I were to venture a guess it would be something like "Wiccan-Inflouenced New-Age Unitarian Universalist Buddhist Shinto Neo-Pagan Earth Based Green Path Witch with Native American/Shaman undertones". I suppose I should identify as Eclectic, but I don't like that word...I think it's too over used. I know a lot of Greco-Roman mythology and lots of of Eastern (particularly Japanese shinto) mythology, some Egyptain and Hindu/Indian, and bits and pieces of lots of others. I often find that when mythology and theology studies aren't spiritually inspiring, that they are intellectually stimulating - so if you can suggest any good books or sources, I would be glad if you did!
I'm content with where I am in 'my path' right now, but I really want to continue to learn. I have spent several years knowing that "This" is what I want to believe, but I have only been studying for the past five years, on and off, and not limited to just Wicca (though mostly Pagan) . I've gone through countless books and websites, I think most of the learning that comes after is found in unlikely places, from interacting with people, soul searching, or just experience (so of course, I'm a tad impatient) . Though I can't always avoid it, I try not to label my path too much, and I try to refrain from calling myself Wiccan. I followed (the closest thing I could get to, anyway) Wicca for a few years, but I know now that I'm too far off the beaten path. I Keep Wicca close to myself as something to keep me on track, but it's not the path I follow...though I tend to borrow from it.
I'm not proud of all of my spiritual experiences, but I wouldn't trade them for the world, because they all have shaped me in some way.
As of recently (as in, the past year or so) I've been getting more involved in the LGBTQ community. As of now, I'm not sure whether I should call myself Bisexual or Lesbian, but I'm lucky enough to have friends and family that accept and encourage me either way. I probably don't deserve them at all - I'm truly blessed.
I'm really interested in art, specifically visual art, and I hope to have a career as a free-lance artist someday. I'm currently exploring drawing and painting, as I have been since early childhood. My dream art school is NorthWest college of Arts... though I'm having trouble convincing my school and parents that I'm sure it's what I want to go into. I would look forward to living in a one room apartment and eating top ramen and spam for the rest of my life if it meant I got to paint for a living. I'm also interested in other arts, such as theatre, cooking, music, and poetry -
though I have no musical or poetic talent / skill whatsoever.
I am also very interested in Japanese liguistics and culture. Starting this fall, I will have been taking Japanese in a formal classroom setting for eight years, though due to family friends, I have picked up bits and pieces much earlier. Japanese Shinto is one of my favorite mythological paths, with lots of nature based practice and hints of shamanism. I have only been to Japan twice, but I have always made it a point to visit some of the Shinto Shrines and Buddhist Temples while visiting; I refference a lot of Japanese cultural roots in my spirituality.
Though I am passionate about speaking Japanese, I have recently developed an interested in American Sign Language. I have high hopes to be a fluent multi-lingual someday!
If you're interested in chatting with me, feel free to send me a message, I don't know many Pagans in person (at least not closely) and I'm always up for a chat. As of recent I have been hoping to network with some Pagans in the area, mostly for simple things like support groups, community service, friendship and discussion, so feel free to contact me.
