Whale Song

by Nika

Age Group: Adult

Whale Song

Have you ever heard that song sung far out at sea?
It's so deep and sincere; a truly moving melody.
A voice well known, yet strangely alien too,
It swims to your heart, then ripples about you.
That feeling never leaves; it will last for always,
It lives in your heart to see you through your days.

It becomes a part of you, a part you once lost,
Something you can't buy, it comes without cost.
We all once had it; it's a part of our heart,
But for some reason, many of us part.
I don't know why, I just know it's true,
And I suspect that you know this, too.

But I can hear it now, if I listen with care,
Coming across the ocean, it's always there
Slow and soulful, it's a mist upon the waves,
As dark and mysterious as the deep sea caves,
The song is as bright as coral, yet soft as foam,
Dancing with the wind, it flies and roams.

As old as the stars, with the power of the moon,
It rolls through the ocean, a magical tune;
With the heart of a unicorn, the grace of a fairy
It has the gift to make one sorrowful and merry;
With the wisdom of the ages, the depth of the sky,
It brings peace to your soul, and lifts you to fly.

It tells of a place we know little about,
A place we think we can do without,
It sings of a love few of us hold,
Whispers of wisdom, hidden and old,
It smiles of joy, one we barely know,
For over the ages, we let these things go.

All the paths of the forests, secrets of the sea,
Thoughts and instincts of animals, wild and free,
The strength of mountains, patience of sand,
Revealed through music from the sea to the land;
A soothing melody, where not one note is wrong,
This is the power, peace and wisdom, of the whale song.

Author's Notes: This is just something I've created on the spur of the moment, after listening to a relaxation/meditation CD based on whale songs and the ocean. I believe there is a power in music, and once again, this poem also outlines the mystery and fascination I have for the sea. It's relatively short though, and I hope you all enjoy it! :) Smile, Laugh and Play; Life is far too short to be taken seriously! B*B!
