Love's Cards

Love's Cards
(based, of course, on the mysterious tarot cards ;) )
The Fool leaps gaily into view
Whenever my eyes rest on you,
The Ace of Cups than wanders along
As within my heart flows forth a song.
Before my love for you is sealed,
I spot the Empress in the field
And when I spy a graceful deer
A whispered voice sounds in my ear,
Advice from the Hierophant by my side
As from the Lovers I cannot hide.
They come to me with Nine Wands of flame
As Seven Cups pour out a name,
xxxxxx, the word shines bright
As Nine more Cups dance into sight.
The Ace of Cups comes forward once more
Now Ten Cups do circle the floor.
Patiently, fair Justice comes to me,
With the white rose of Death, to set us free,
As Temperance goes to splash in the stream
The Star illumes you in a golden beam.
Around your feet Golden Karma does rise
And I see the Sun shine from your eyes.
Judgment ascends from deep within me,
I now know my soul is linked to thee.
The World is ours; you know it's true
These cards do sing to me and you
Five Reversed Swords lie at my feet,
'Cause you're my angel, my life's complete.
You're a Goddess, the fairest in the land
Wisdom of the skies, Natural power in your hand
You're Aphrodite, you've spun Fortune's Wheel
It's fate, it's true, this love is real.
Author's Notes: This is a poem I wrote for a friend to write in a card for his girlfriend on Valentine's day, as he felt that girl's probably shared similar ideas on romance. How wrong he is! I have never been caught up in romance, although I do love chick flicks, lol, so thought it would be an interesting challenge. As we are rather good friends, I knew that his girlfriend, whose name is removed, was interested in tarot readings so based this poem on some of the cards which could be predicted as appropriate for such a theme. It is perhaps the only love poem I have ever written, therefore I feel obliged to be proud of it, lol. Together it incorporates 18 cards from the the major and minor arcarna, and as my cards are based on Greek mythology, certain aspects, such as fair Justice, who is portrayed as Athena, Iris (as Temperance) or the Goddess of Love, Aphrodite, may differ between different types of cards.
