Parade My Beliefs

by Eilan
 Age Group: Adult

Why should I hide and fear And change what hangs on my neck Why do you glare and jeer Your own, I have not wrecked Why should I have to close my lips Why am I seen as damned It is not your sacred book I rip And not my bookshelf's crammed Why are my eyes a danger Why is my stare a threat It's the Sun God in the manger And all my Karmic Debt The World is my Goddess No tree or creature less The Goddess the air around me I know I'm not the best So why do you laugh or shout At what I hold so close Do you know what I am about? Don't accuse me with that Rose I understand your God From my biased point of view But I see myself trying Why can't you try too? The star that hangs near my chest The pentagram I say Represents my spiritual quest You need not pester me night and day You see me lighting bonfires And see all Hell inside I see me lighting desires Are you sure you have not lied Or does sand cover your eyes That you can clearly see Only sand when eyes do open It could surely be So why do you reject me Only give me yours Why do you frown at me I accept your Laws But does that mean that I should live The way that you do try For if that book was opened I could see that it is lies Not that it is nothing good But if you follow All Then why are no cows killed It's in there, not just simply could So let me free from bars That back me to the wall Let me see the stars And let them hear my call Let me run through wild Let me stretch my feet Let me be her child Let me touch the sleet Let me light the fires Let me dance in mirth Let me fulfil my desires Let me be with the Earth Let me ride the skies Let me sail the clouds Let me to me tears Let me be in crowds Let me drive my own mind Let me see what I feel Let me seek for what I find Let me laughter, peal Let me read my books Let me dream again Let me give the looks Let me of my pain Let me be myself Let me touch my skin Let me be of wealth Let me be of sin Let me will as I do Let me understand Let me see right through Let me paint in colours and.... Let me Parade my Beliefs
Author's Notes: I wrote this poem after being verbally abused at my school about my spiritual choice. It is a comment on the oppression I felt as if I were some ignorant child who did not know what was good for him and that I was being scolded for being naughty. Paganism allows me to be free and honour my human nature. This poem is an ode to that...
