Glory

He did not mean to die
although he had all the necessary accoutrements
Rifle
Bayonet
Cause
It never occured to him that
they also had
for he was young
and invincible
and on the side of God
He did not mean to die
A hero they said
Which comforted his parents
surely
in their endless, re-occuring wound
Author's Notes: When all the jingoism and patriotic banner waving is going on, it is easy to forget that real men and women are dying for a reason that is problematical at best, decetive at worst and could have been avoided (as most conflicts can be) . Amyway, this is just a simple comeent on that.
