Gaia's Death
by Raveneve Night
Age Group: Adult
Still Her sleeping shadow lies,
Under smog acid breath.
Her weeping form realises,
a form of living death.
She shudders into foetal mass,
pain in every limb.
The ragged breath slowly pass,
an anticaustic hymn.
Tears pool beneath ruined face,
drowning, the slow death.
Of polluted apathic pace,
humanity's hurried breath.
Dreaming She of distant time,
long ago and far away.
When She and Man, singing chimes,
Partners bold and fae.
She turns, and then She cries,
whimpering once more.
Dreaming of times gone by,
when Man proclaimed the Lore.
And so She dies day by day,
Technological itch.
While Man rapes and laughs away.
Wealth to make him rich.
So She sighs and hugs Her knees,
Her dead baby lying near.
A hand, a touch, a gentle squeeze,
Death brings no fear.
Her mind is cold, blue like ice.
Her breath fades away.
Gone is man, like the lice,
The dawn an empty day.
Author's Notes: Man's capacity to ignore the destruction he causes into the rush to be the King, never ceases to amaze. Nearly every War is power and greed. They will never learn.
