Rhapsody to the verse

The wit of what I write
is not in the wit of what I say
but in the wit of what I have
heard again in echoes
mixed with memory
both singular and tribal
that speaks from the heart
to the heart
interpreted by the wit of the hearer
who has the wit to see that I write
for myself
for them
for the mystery of the moment
for the beauty that is life
