The Wall

(This world was never meant for ones as beautiful as you)
The Wall
Dulce et Decorum est, Pro patria mori.
Is but a call to War and Glory
But when the call is to Peace
How does Glory find release?
You walked the line drawn in the sand
Thus far you shall go but no more
Yet you could not understand
The Deceit of Peace in the midst of War
How can your voice be heard
When silenced with Official words
They have denied what our eyes saw
Cursed we are by this Peaceful War
Now to your grave this peace has led
The Peace we never saved is lost
The blood, the tears, the fevered dreams
We who are left will bear the cost
Why do young men such as we
With starry eyes defend the wall
With broken spirits the price we pay
When our leaders insure that we will fall
Silent now you are laid to sleep
Silent as the desert sky
Witness to a slaughtered Peace
All you had left was for your body to die
Yet we who with you walked the line
Remember the man before the husk
We will not let the bastards win
Our promise remains till we all are all dust
Author's Notes: These two beautiful people served their country well and were then cast aside when it became inconvienient to care for them. In the end what they witnessed (the truth) and what they were told (the spin) became too difiicult to live with and they took their own lives, or as I prefer to think, they were killed in action. This poem is dedicated to them and all who for a dubious war and an even more dubious peace are thrown onto the scrapeheap of expediency
