A New Year's Day Song

I am the dance of dragonflies
On a rippling pool
Of changing formation
Where
Morning star
Crescent moon
Alone shine through
A new year
Dawn sky
Where in the moving clouds
Angels abide
I am the first bird’s song
I am the shooting light
Across the night
I am the wishing flower
Free with the breeze
I am the deer bellowing
Unseen in the shadow
I am the thunder
On the mountain
I am the morning ducks
Quiet on the pond
I am peace’s midnight chant
The sweet Pali tones
I am the poetry
I am the kindness
I am love’s reflected gaze
I am the silence
I am the gentle
Birth and death of moments
I am the union
And I am the separation
I am the cool wind
Of truth’s exclamation
I am the reaching out
I am the falling away
I am the cupped hands
Holding sacred
I am the knowing
I am the trust
I am the surrender
Author's Notes: I spent New Year's Eve at The Buddha Bodhivana Monastery. I am always grateful for the mirror of Peace that the monks who reside here hold for us all through their committment to the practice of meditation. They are known as forest monks and for good reason. Although Buddhism this life is not my soul home, too wild and sensual are my god and goddess, I always feel like a well received visitor in a kind neighbouring country. Thus my tribute with this poem.
