the three of us
by exploring my path
Age Group: Adult
misery is my best friend.
disdain is my closest ally.
the three of us stare silently
at the happy people.
the blissfully ignorant.
blind to the plight of the needy,
lost in selfish thought
about their needs, their jobs, their bills.
When there are children dying of starvation...
they wonder what to wear to dinner.
they ponder what car to choose, what model to buy,
what color they want it to be.
to make a more stylish getaway
from the guy standing in the doorway
of the shelter that had to turn him away
we sit, we watch, we wonder
why we see what they do not
misery, disdain and I
begin to wonder what it's like...
to wonder who's better off.
Author's Notes: totally different than my usual 'what's everyone so miserable about' attitude.......but...just another side of me.
