Sunrise Prayer

Oh creator, let me be grateful for this day.
It is a new day and I must remember
to tread in it wisely.
Let me remember that my presence on this planet
should be a comfort to those around me,
and that a sharp tongue and a careless word
create deep and useless wounds.
Open my eyes to the potential of all I meet.
Let me see beyond exteriors to the soul
that I may cherish your presence in them.
In moving through life's joys and sorrows,
help me gather the experiences
I need to share myself with others.
Let me wise in my choice of burdens
so that I do not lose sight of the beauty
of your existence in the darkness.
Thank you for the blessings I find in each day
and the power to share them.
In drawing my strength for this day from them,
I am richer for the love and laughter
and those moments of breathtaking beauty
that nourish me.
Let me come to the end of this day
having harmed none.
Author's Notes: I wrote this ohhhhh probably about eight years ago and I turn to it to remind myself of the choices made in our journey.
'Harming none' is not always as easy as it looks.
